Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I am a businesswoman, the owner of a small business.  I made the mistake of going to LensCrafters in Milford, CT, in September, since a lens had fallen out of my now-broken eyeglass frame.

I was told that I needed an eye exam.  I agreed.  Then I was pressured into buying two pairs of glasses.  What I was not told, and never was told until today, was that High Index lenses were available.  Instead, I was given glasses with "coke bottle" thick lenses.  Since I need glasses to see, I accepted them.

Today, January 2, 2010, I returned to LensCrafters with a complaint that the prescription was too strong and was making me dizzy.  Instead, the General Manager, Dennis Rosadini, insisted that the prescription was right, and told me that yes, High Index lenses were, indeed, available.  The extra charge would be $90.

I have written to the CFO and CAO, Jack S. Dennis, about this matter, since I am at a disadvantage here.  I see no reason why I should need to pay an additional $90 for LensCrafters' error.

I would bet good money that the "available" high index lenses were not in stock as they sold you your new glasses and as they weren't in stock they would work very hard at not selling them to you. In my case they worked me through their process and each stop lied and told me the product I wanted would be what I would get, I got a big surprise when what was put on my face was not what I asked for, and as I was replacing a broken pair of glasses and had spent the several hours the system takes I had to take them, just like you, except I knew immediately they had bent me over the till. As I am a large fellow and the salesman was not I left before I did something to get arrested.

Lenscrafters does not owe you for upgraded lenses

If the prescription is too strong, then go back to the doctor that wrote your prescription.  Only he/she will be able to change your prescription.  As a former optician, I would have first checked the lenses to make sure they were made correctly.  If they were made correctly, then I would have referred you back to the doctor that wrote the prescription.  I know it is a hassle, but Lenscrafters can only make eyeglasses according to the doctor's prescription.

If a customer has a strong prescription, then sales associates will try to steer them towards the lighter, thinner, lenses.  They get "spiffs" or commissions from these sales.  I don't believe you were not told about that option.  There is information about lighter, thinner lenses posted through out every store.  Even if the sales person did not mention the option to you (I find that hard to believe) Lenscrafters did not make an error if the glasses were made according to your prescription.  If you want lighter, thinner, lenses, then you should pay the difference.  What you are asking for is to get upgraded lenses at the cost of regular plastic lenses.  Lenscrafters did not make an error.
