Bought drill mount rimless glasses a little over one year ago (Feb 26, 2005). Have been flimsy and overall poor quality, but thats not the point of this complaint. My prescription changed so I went to LensCrafters to get new lenses (actually just wanted one new lens). Manager/apprentice optician said they would not change the lenses on my glasses because they were rimless and LensCrafters did not replace lenses on such frames. Rather than just change the lenses, I needed to buy another pair of frames as well. I was not informed of this policy at the time I purchased the glasses and would not have bought the glasses in the first place if I knew this were the case. The manager issued a heartfelt sorry and offered to sell me a brand new pair of the same glasses for $300. Since I only needed one new lens, I felt like the store was trying to take advantage of me and decided not to pay $300 in effect for one lens.

I will attempt to take the glasses to a reputable eye care professional and see if he can help me. Looking at other cases online, it seems that other eye wear stores will replace lenses on rimless glasses.

The LensCrafters stance appears to be a pathetic attempt to bilk me for more money. Something other than sorry, you can re-buy the same glasses for $300 may have swindled, I mean persuaded, me to purchase another pair of glasses from LensCrafters.

response to drill and mount issue

As was explained to this customer drill and mounts can not be reused at Lenscrafters because of a quality issue. The posts (screws) that hold the frame together can not be replaced. Once the screws are cut to fit the lens thickness, based on rx, quality can not be guaranteed, especially when the rx has changed. LensCrafters has strict quality standards, and offers 100% satisfaction within a reasonable period of time. This customer purchased his glasses at a location out of state, and we apologized that he was not made aware of this policy at the time of purchase. We always offer customers the opportunity to purchase a new frame when we are unable to use their current frame. This customer and others are always able to go somewhere else they think can serve them better. However, very few place have these quality standards so please be aware of what issues you may have with reusing this kind frame no matter where you go. You may want to make sure of their policies when purchasing and their quality standards when reusing a frame, and when making inquires make sure to clarify drill and mount and not rimless, as these are different frames.
