Dr.Vynke put 2 of my cats and my dog on life long meds, which I was buying from him at a outrageous mark-up price. I checked the med. prices at 1800 petmeds and found out I could save over $30.00 a month on the very same meds from the very same drug manufactures.
I placed my order with 1800 petmeds, they called Dr. Vynke for the ok, but he would not ok the scripts over the phone. I was told I had to pick up the scripts from the Dr. and pay $10.00 a script just for him to write them, that's $30.00 in fees. And he would not ok refills on those scripts, so when I have to refill again I would have to have him write the scripts again at $30.00.
What a rip-off. I thought Extortion was illegal. Needless to say I am looking for another Vet. now.

I was wondering if you could please remove this because Dr.Vyncke no longer owners the practice and we do not practice the same way he did?

Check your state laws, but in some states, it is illegal for the veterinarian to charge a fee for writing a prescription. Differes from one state to another. Your veterinarian most likely registeres with your states health department. Call them, they may be able to tell you if charging a fee for writing a prescription is legal in your state. Worth checking into.

I second the above rebuttal! I also have worked for Veterinary hospitals and it is true that the pharmaceutical companies WILL NOT & ARE NOT selling to the online pharmacies. Yes, it may be cheaper, but they often have exprired meds or meds from overseas that are not regulated the same as in the US. My suggestion to you would be to ask your Vet to write you a prescription and see if your local Sam's or Costco will fill it. Sometimes they can fill the same drugs at lower prices. If you choose to use an online pharmacy, make sure they have a legit pharmacy license number before you purchase from them!! Also, it's not unusual for Vets to charge a prescription fee (especially if they are not filling the scripts). You are not simply paying for a piece of paper with their signiture on it, you are paying for their time/knowledge used to review your pet's chart & assess their need for the meds.

I used to work at an animal hospital in va. and have had several experiences w/petmeds. First of all none of the big companies like pfizer, merial etc even sell medication to petmeds. You can call the companies and ask for yourself. Pet-meds gets their medication from individual vet hosp. in which their products have already expired and will sell them to petmeds. Second of all petmeds does not really have a qualified vet on staff to answer (truthfully) any questions you might have with the medication or it's interaction with your pet. Although purchasing from your vet can be expensive atleast you know that the meds you're getting are safe, efficient and is going to help treat the problem. If your vet is just to expensive and you want to help your pet try going to a local pharmacy to compare prices or even another vet in the area. There is an online pharmacy that is REAL, LEGIT, and NONE of their medication is EXPIRED it is vetcentric.com or call 1-866-838-2368 to get more information on the company.
