I was a student at ITT Tech's Portland campus for 2 terms in 2003 and 2004. The following paragraphs are a summary of my experience with ITT's adequacies and inadequacies as an educative institute:

Books - The NIIT-published books that were sold to me were fine in my opinion, with the exception of the "Introduction to Computer Programming" textbook, which contained many errors.

I was also sold a book titled "PC Technology", put out by "Heathkit Educational Systems", which contained many errors. These errors were with spelling, grammar, punctuation, and logic. I found it difficult to follow at times, due to its author(s)' overtly informal writing style. I recall a student asking a instructor of the course using this text if the book was contradicting itself, and the instructor answering Yes.

Instructors I thought that one of my instructors was inadequately prepared knowledge-wise to lead a class in which she was an instructor. It was an "Introduction to Microcomputers" course, and this instructor was paired with another instructor who was more knowledgeable in the field. She (the instructor I claim lacked adequate knowledge) freely admitted that her knowledge in the field was shallow, and redirected many student's questions to the other instructor.

Other Opinion - I was pleased with the knowledge level of the majority of the instructors I had at ITT. They demonstrated extensive knowledge in their fields with their ability to answer students' questions which addressed topics not covered in the class material. I found the coursework to be easy, but I was mostly satisfied with the amount of information that was passed from the instructors and textbooks to the students. I would not discourage someone interested in ITT from pursuing an education at one of the many ITT campuses.

I would like to see positive reform in the textbook situation at ITT, and I think it could be good to have a system in place to ensure that all the instructors at ITT can answer reasonable student questions (reasonable questions being those which address the course material). Considering the high tuition and book prices at ITT, I believe the issues of an inadequately prepared instructor and erroneous textbooks to be fairly considered rip-offs.

I don't support allegations, which other people have made in a complaint filed on this web site, such as:

ITT Tech says job placement............lie.

or:

the only classes in which we learn anything, are the classes in which we dont actually use the books

Thank you for your time!

I have heard from many people that they do offer what i stated before, using a USED CAR sales like tactic of empty promises. I guess i could have been more specific, They told me that there was a technical company that they work with exclusively and that the mentioned company would hire us on after one year of attending ITT TECH and that so long as we had a good GPA we would be hired on and that the company would pay for the second year of attending ITT TECH and that they had that agreement worked out with that company. They will basically tell you anything you want to hear to get you to sign on. I know that when the FBI shut down the school for investigation while i was attending, i know for a fact that their "SIGNING" practices were part of the investigation. I was also informed by the FBI that they had used others social security numbers to get me loans and then tried to blame me for it saying i must have entered a wrong number in the application, "as in i must have meant a zero but it appeard to look like a nine". This accusation made me furious, they lied to get my loans without my knowelege and certainly without my approval and then when they got caught they tried to blame the students. Too bad for them they had way too many of these errors and the FBI didn't buy any of their lies. But all i can tell you is that i am a very honest person and i wouldn't say it if it wasn't true, and i can PROMISE you 100% that i was told i would have a guranteed job after one year, They even gave me the name of the company and everything. 5 other students were told the same thing and all six of us reported those facts to the FBI and it is on official record. Since posting my report in 2004 i have been contacted and witnessed over 50 reports of people stating the same exact thing. So trust me yes they do lie about getting you a job!

$500 a day?

#3Consumer Comment

Ok, so you're making $500 a day. someone calls you and tells you to inroll in their school and become eligible for a $25/hr job. $25/hr x 8 hrs = $200 per day. So, you are trying to convince us that the recruiter talked you into quitting a job to go to school for the opportunity of a future job getting paid less than half of what you are making. You really didn't think your lies through before you posted them. Having a job making $500 a day is different than having a job where there was a day you made a $500 commission. Do you actually tell adults that you know that you were making $500 a day? If so, you should stop, you are transparent.

thank you for replying to my former resonse. i apologize if i sounded hostile. i was and still am very upset by how screwed i was by itt tech. like i explaned before or i am not sure if you read my report, but i was not the only one. me along with 5 other students were told that itt tech has companies that hire only through them and that they hire students that have been there for a year at least. me and the five other students went after one year to recieve our "gauranteed jobs" and we were told "sorry you were lied to but we only help you get jobs". we said ok then help us get a job. they had the balls to call us two days later and offer us jobs at mcdonalds as burger flippers. they called it a survival job. but you must understand that i had no intention of attending a college for a survival job let alone attend a college at all. you see i was working for a company in which in no exageration and no joke..i made 500 us dollars a day, working as a business salesman. i was called out of the blue by an itt tech recruiter. they then told me that i was guaranteed this job that not only would pay a starting wage of 25$ per hour. but that the job would pay for my second year of schooling. NOW PLEASE REMEMBER 4 other students along with myself confronted teachers and the dean to this fact. i DEFINITLY agree with the lack of teacher knowlege. i asked how to fix something on my WINDOWS OS(WIN 2K) and was told by a teacher to contact microsoft help desk. but no matter what you want to think, i should hope you know that i don't claim this for sh**s and giggles i state i was lied to cause it is the truth. and i am not the only claiming it. if so many people come forward and say the same exact thing i should hope you would assume it holds some truth. so i leave you with this. i have never been more violated or conned. or ripped off in my life. they are con artists and nothing more. they will pay for their crimes and pay for their lies! one way or another I WILL MAKE THEM PAY! for people like them deserve the worst of the worst. may their childeren and their childerens childeren rott in hell!

I worked for a temp agency that staffed ITT Tech

Hello, I just wanted to add to this report by adding my experience in 2002/03 with the Sacramento location. The Sacramento ITT campus used many temporary agency employees for various positions, Admin, Job Placement and Financial Aid. Many of those smiling faces you see working at ITT are temporary agency employees and have very short placements. I used to be employed in the staffing office of an employment agency that put a "Financial Aid" and "Job Placement" officer into the Sacramento ITT campus, these were $8 an hour temps who had minimal experience. In my length of employment at this temporary agency, we placed many temps at ITT Tech filing various roles in the office. ITT has used temporaries in the past to perform critical jobs at the school. What does this tell you about the quality of job service placements at ITT Tech, when the people assiting the students with jobs are unemployed and have resorted to working temporary? ITT Tech is a joke, students take heed and go to a community college instead.

Ryan, thanks for your input. I'm sorry to hear about your experiences with ITT! You asked: "are you stating that the students who were ripped off and alleged that they were lied to about job placement are lying about being lied to or are you stating that they were lied to[?]" My response: Sorry, I wasn't as clear as I could have been. What I meant to say was that I did not support claims that students were being lied to about job placement. I did not support such claims because I was not aware of any evidence of ITT employees lying about job placement. I did not intend to call anyone liars. I wanted to express disappointment with textbooks and an ITT instructor. It surprises me that an ITT employee guaranteed you a job in one year. That sounds like an impossible thing to guarantee, considering all the factors outside of their control that could affect whether you get a job. Thanks for taking action to stop lies about important things like job placement!

I am confused by one of your statements in your report, i myself have filed a report against itt tech for their fruadulant activities against me and my fellow classmates. i attended the itt tech in portland as well. i am wondering what you meant about the job placement being a lie, are you stating that the students who were ripped off and alleged that they were lied to about job placement are lying about being lied to or are you stating that they were lied to. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY DO LIE ABOUT JOB PLACEMENT!!!! they lied to me and told me that they would place me in a job after one year and they told this to 5 of my fellow classmates that i know about, who knows how may more victums of these lies there are but i am curious if you are stating that ALL of us are liars? and are you stating that the recruiters who came forward and admitted that they lied to students about job placement are also lying as well, it sounds to me like you are stating that everyone is lying but you... it is interesting to me cause i know for a fact they have lied about job placement.
