You said you called the hotel to cancel the reservation? If you made the reservation with hotels.com why didn't you call them to cancel? It tells you on your receipt and prior to booking to contact hotels.com for changes and cancellations to ensure the proper refund. You called the hotel and they can't tell you what another company can or will do! They don't even have access to hotels.com's billing system......

I have used Hotels.com several times in the past, and the way to change hotels is to do it directly online and not with their customer service agents. You are always charged a $50 change or cancellation fee no matter what your situation. Many (not all) of the customer service reps are NOT competent, and they will say anything to get you off the phone. They know you are subject to a change/cancellation fee. The best thing to do is to call the hotel directly; it's worth it to pay a little extra than have to deal with hotels.com and their reservation policies. You can cancel when you want and can pick your own type of room. I will never use hotels.com again due to the many problems I have had with them in the past and the false information given by more than one of their customer service reps.

I have used Hotels.com twice this year and have serious doubts regarding your story. The first time, I was not near a computer and called in my reservation, I was informed that the reservation was guaranteed and cancellations were not allowed. The second time, I reserved online, and again, they made it perfectly clear that the reservation was guaranteed and there would be no cancellations. Next time you want to reserve a hotel online, check more than one reservation service, then check the hotels own site. I found a few hotels where it was cheaper to reserve using their own site.

Then would you care you to explain why the representative falsely claimed hotels.com would send a check or electronic mail message regarding the situation? Either you are attempting to deceive Chris and everyone else who reads the rebuttal and you probably in fact work for the company or incompetent.

If you want flexibility in changing hotels, reservations, etc. then dont book online. These websites typically offer the lowest rates because the reservations come with heavy restrictions just like the airlines. So hotels.com has not really done anything wrong. You booked a non refundable reservation and thus are not entitle to a refund.
