Complaint Review: Hechts Department Store - Waldorf Maryland

I am certainly not homophobic. When I ran away from an abusive home at the age of 15, I chose San Francisco as a destination. There I found many wonderful people both gay and sraight. As a straight man, I have absolutly nothing against gay men or lesbians. I am however sorry for my lame attempt at humor. It's just that from your prior posts I got the impression that you could handle it. Again I apalogize. And thank you for the visual of you dancing in tights, I hope you don't take offense if I imagine you as a lithe female.

I think by pointing out April and Dales B.S., I allowed them to get me caught up in thier sick, unqualilied world. When they started making up unfounded lies about me, I was unable to keep myself from responding. I now have other things that are much more important to deal with. Those two can do and say what they want, I'm through trying to reach them with reason, as they just can't or wont understand it.

Adam, Not sure why you included my name in your last post. Folks, we know Dale & April's stance. We know Adam's stance. We know Dale & April have lots of OLD reports on ROR. Jaundice is common in newborns, as most parents already know. However when it comes to adults, the discoloration is caused from too much bilirubin in the red blood cells. I don't think anyone could understand what you might have been trying to say, as most of your words were spelt beyond understanding. So, let me clear things up, the discoloration is caused mostly by kidney and liver failure. But it can also be a result of other illnesses and/or diseases such as, but not limited to, bile duct obstruction, gallstones, tumors, hepatitis, biliary obstruction or defect, cirrhosis, cancer of the liver, the kidneys, the bowels, intestines, stomach lining, etc, poor blood flow to vital organs and Malaria (which is very uncommon). I do and can speak on this, I've had to study it enough. The problem with your rebuttal, you can't speak on this, you obviously have no known knowledge of any medical conditions. Secondly, that post has nothing to do with this one. WOW, I actually disagreed with a post on here, you seem to disagree with all. And that post was way off as these people claimed to have had something that they didn't and I stated a fact and also wrote that I wished them luck, but they were lied to and needed to see a doctor again. It can also point to blocked biliary ducts and many other potentialy fatal conditiouns. Here we have someone preaching tolerance, understanding and common sense who then stereotypes everyone in a given location, calls them idiots, and then states: "Because every one of them lacks 1)common sense 2)tolerance 3)respect for others and 4)self control. No, I do NOT believe anyone has the right to say anything anytime anywhere. Where did you get that idea? Did I not speak of respect and tolerance? I am also a big believer in good old common sense. This is an appropriate forum for airing grievances regarding consumer issues. It is not appropriate to dig up reports that are older than time and go on a witch hunt. This site was created to give consumers a place to air their comments on ripoffs, and to receive CONSTRUCTIVE advice on how to handle their particular situation. For those who do not know, the DC area has more attorneys than the rest of the world combined. They all make a ton of money suing everyone for everything. Dale and April find all sorts of injustice being done to them. This is for one reason. So they can sue and collect. Their child is UNSUPERVISED by THEM and gets burned slightly. SUE the IHOP and collect. I say slightly because no decent parent would wait hours on end to get medical treatment for their child if it was serious. Nothing in that sad tale of woe is consistent with their original post. Hechts has all the fat women going upstairs and into the back for their new MUMU's instead of up front for the rest of the customer base. WAH! SUE and collect for the "humiliation" suffered. How about I SUE for having to look at all the fat nasties waddling around in the way, or having to deal with stupid parents who have no control over their kids. They are typical DC residents. I have a buddy who moved away from there because of all the nonsense. He was sued because a customer, who did not want to pay for repairs done, claimed her car "faded" in the sunlight. He settled for $500, afterfinding out this woman sues EVERYONE for EVERYTHING and showing her the paperwork from the courthouse. She wanted $1500. He saved $1000 and a day in court, but still blew the $500 paying this piece of trash. This is the mentality of the area. I grew up there and have never been saddened by leaving the place. My kid was attacked by a babysitter's Husky and got his face torn up. Took a bunch of stitches. I did not SUE because that isn't how I need to live my life. Life has it's risks. The only people who can't figure that out are the residents of the DC Metropolitan Area.

I feel for you truely. No store should be like this. However, my wife posted this because of how someone was treated. She's not plus-sized. She could have stayed out of it, but after seeing what the woman's beef was, it's hard not to. No one should have to pay markups at a speacialty store, no matter what the size. Customers should not have been treated unfairly and made fun of because they wear a size other than the employee. And plus sizes should not be placed away from all other clothes because it makes the store feel better. Come on now.

I read the comments posted, and I was amazed at how other women were responding to each other. We are all women, dealing with the same issues being a mom, significant other, wife, whatever the case may be. We should learn to love each other not according to size, but what's in the heart. april and dave, i live about 30 miles away from waldorf, but my sister lives next to the mall out there and ive been there too many times, but just to comfirm, i called her and asked she stop by there today and tell me about this plus size dept. that is so stuffed away. hechts is a great store out there and always treated me good during the christmas season, and im not rich like most oldtowne folks where is live, so i just where jeans and t-shirt, and yes im fat, atleast i got a huge beer gut, but man the sales peeps out there are exceptional(my spellin good enough for ya?) last christmas i musta spent $500 in that store alone with my sisters, one who is oversized and i do remember her getting all the help she needed. but man yall have the worst of luck, if i ever meet ya im runnin for the hills. same thing with waldorf ford, i read that whole thread and still think youre full of it. thats a call i gotta make soon enough too, jsut to let floyd know this is here, i used to work there for about a year sellin cars, and ya i saw a few service complaints, mainly cause peeps would drop thir car off for repair and expect we have all parts onhand, well, we didnt, sorries, but the service crew always took care of it, i should know, i sold some cars that needed stuff done to them off the lot, like scratches, dents, one time a truck had the wrong radio in it, so it had to be switched out, some cars had to be refilled with fluids and whatnot, but everytime i sold a car and needed somethin done the serrvice crew did it quickly as possible, and if a problem occured a month or 2 down the road, my customers called me and asked for help, and i did anything i could do , and if i couldnt do it, i turned to floyd, and he took care of everything, i couldnt belive he made anyone mad or didnt help them out, so if those are your real names, ill be askin, and as far as ihop, im in restraunts now over in oldtowne, alexandria, va now and i can tell ya why your waitress dropped that food and ran, youre probably annoyin as hell to wait on, youve prob been to that ihop before and they reconize ya, cause you prob dont realize that server lives on tips and tips alone, do you know that most servers only get $2.58 an hour in our area? bs, learn to take care of a car, thats hard to damage a car that much. but then again what were u expectin for a car that fully equiped stickers at around 17,000, the same one i sold my sis for 11,000? As a regular Hecht's shopper, at most of their area stores i find that no store has small spaces in the back for plus sizes. I often complain that the most beautiful colors and styles are in the plus sizes and not available in my size. Lets be real here Hecht's has something for everyone and the sales are great in all departments. I fyou just don't like Hechts i'm sure they wouldnt mind if you shop elsewhere.

Most department stores have specialty clothes (maternity clothes, plus size clothes, etc) in areas of the store that are not close to the doors. What do women by most often? Shoes... So, you come in the Hechts main entrance in Waldorf and you find yourself in the shoe section. Another big seller is young girls clothes. Young girls tend to shop in the mall, not just one store so the young girls section (12-18 year olds) is by the door leading to the mall. As for materity clothes and plus sizes, these are speciality items and are not a big demand so they are not in the key places in the store. Also, because these items turn over slower, they don't have big sales on them. You should not be ofended by this store. Simply take a marketing course and you will understand why the store is set up the way it is. I do have one negative comment about Hechts and all the department stores in Waldorf. They don't leave enough room between the racks of clothes for a wheel chair or a stroller. It is suppose to be 36 inches, but it never is.

The poor selection is only becasue these woman are given a very small area of the store where as the entire downsatirs is for the smaller sized woman. My wife and her family have shopped at Hechts for years, but the situation is discriminatory, no matter how you look at it. Not only is this section very small but that their department is located in an isolation behind the stores intimate items. They can't possibly be making the sales that most other store make on these sizes when no one even knows that these sizes exist in their store. Do you see the point now? I feel sorry for the woman the salesperson was rude to. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident at this store. It's really sad when full sized woman can't even find their sizes in the store, but it's OK for two cross dressing men to work in front of the store doing make-overs. Something isn't right with this particular store. I've personally never been in another Hechts, so I can't say if this is the only store, but this is how this store is run.

Hechts has some of the best sales & & fashion for Plus,Misses & Jr.styles !!! i am able 2 shop for my size 18-20 self,& my size 2 neice.... & on another note regarding marketing towards Large Women,u have no idea what the numbers look like Re:the Plus Size industry.In a word.......Phenomenal !!! i also worked as a manager with the nation's largest Plus Size Fashion Leader "Lane Bryant".When was the last time you passed a "Lane Bryant & checked out the window display??,Every item in there can be found in a smaller size @ "Lerner or any trendy fashion store.... It's about confidence,attitude & appearance....no one wants to see an overweight female not dressed appropriately....So the retailer's are not stupid...they know the full woman has $$ to spend....The Hechts in Waldorf Md must have been an isolated incident,or perhaps the section was limited due to Plus Women being steady shopper's & perhaps the floor manager was not on top of their job in restocking....Between working for the May Co. stores and being a continuous shopper,I have been in at least 30 location's & there has never been a selection issue. The issue here is with peoples Barbie girl mentality,not everyone will be under a size 6....the national average size woman is a "14" ... Know what a "14" looks like ?? "Marilyn Monroe".

Hechts,Lord & Taylor,Strawbridges & a few other May Co. Dept Stores would never discriminate the way the out of touch salesperson did towards the full sized shopper. I don't really understand why such offense is taken because a store doesn't carry a variety of certain clothing or because they don't put many items from this department on sale. I mean stores can't carry everything! They chose their merchandise based on what their impression of their customer base is and what they think will be the most profitable. Of course they don't and CAN'T accomodate every style, every taste, every size! That's why there are specialty shops that cater to specific needs, and by specific needs I mean not just plus sizes but also petites, very tall people, maternity clothes, etc. As far as the sales associate's attitude - of course she had no right to make comments like that, if in fact she did. Yet that can hardly be blamed on the company - I have shopped at Hechts for several years & have met numerous friendly & helpful associates.

The entire country is in a crisis regarding obesity and weight, so the way to combat the crisis is to put chunky people in denial by telling them their beautiful? Well said Connie. I posted this report to let people know how this store was discriminating, and yes, this is discrimination. In case the other rebuttalist is unaware, this is the type of discrimination that department stores get sued over and lose so badly that, in the end, they end up out of business like Ames, K-Mart and Wards. Your name and where your from says it all for us. I take it she's just pissed off because we don't have a Kmart anymore. That's probably the best styles she could ever afford. Whoever thinks that plus-size and/or big-n-tall fashions are attractive and stylish needs to have their head examined!! What exactly is so delightful about a tight-fitting tank top that is as large as a circus tent!! Or a pair of panties large enough to fit a hippopotamous!! Here's the answer ... NOTHING. That is why stores put this type of clothing in the back of the store, if they choose to carry them at all. Do you ever see plus-size models in the latest fashion magazines? What about in fashion shows? Why then would the stores focus on such humongous clothing lines? Think about it!!!

Where have you been living? Under a rock? Have you been so obssesed with being on this site that you have lost touch with the outside world? This entire country is in the middle of, what some call, a crisis reguarding obesity and weight. You need to get off your butt and take a look at the world! Not only are there beautiful people out there who are NOT a size 6, but there a lot's of beautiful clothes for them to wear and show off what they got!! I am not ashamed to admit to being bigger (my boyfriend loves to call me his big beautiful busty babe) and believe you me, that retailors do notice our shopping power, those that don't will loose big in the sales department!! Maybe you are just jealous of the people on this site who actually venture into the big wide world and LIVE life, not just watch it from a computer screen!!!

There are many reasons why plus-size garments are located way in the back corner of most stores. First of all, they are not much in demand as they used to be, due to the fact that most americans nowadays are clearly cognizant of the benefits of good health/diet/exercise and therefore do not need such large garments. Stores tend to put what is appealing to the majority of people toward the front of the store. There is nothing sexy/attractive about plus-size garments. Take a look at the differences in styles .... chunky elastic-waist pants, oversized t-shirts, baggy overalls. Plus-sized clothing does not follow current fashion trends and thus does not need to be showcased if the store intends to stay in business for very long. Furthermore, any one who needs to shop for plus-sized garments would most likely benefit from the extra walk to the back rear corner of the store, and should stop complaining about such a tiny issue. If anyone was laughing at the original author, it was probably at her expectation that these unfashionable styles be located somewhere center-stage, which of course would be inappropriate and against all major merchandising standards.

As a former employee, and still frequent shopper, of the Hechts Department Store in Hanes Mall, Winston-Salem, N.C., I can say that the plus-size department is as large as most other clothing departments in the store. Also, I have never encountered any sales personnel which this attitude. I have also shopped at the store in Greensboro with the same results. And, for the record, I am wearing plus-size clothes from Hechts at this moment.
