Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I was approved for a home July 2006. I patiently waited for my home and several people got into their house before me. Dozens after dozens of people before me. After almost 7 years I started to give up. I called the main director Nancy Williams and asked her "Why is my house not done? " she replied "You came in and told me you were going to buy a home on your own so we closed your file" I was outraged! I never said such thing. So I called the Habitat main organization number and they agreed it was Ludacris. They told me i should of got a letter and i told them i never did because honestly i did not! !

They told me they would call the Springfield MO affiliate and get back to me. A week later Nancy from Springfield MO habitat called me and explained that she does not remember saying anything about me not wanting a home which I find hard to believe because she talked to me awhile insistent that I called saying I didn't want a home. Nancy exclaimed to me that she mailed me a letter after 6 years of waiting on a home that my income was now too low but she had no proof of a letter existing. I call the main affiliate number again. They remembered me and hung up on me.

I called back and they said that the affiliate claimed they mailed a letter. I told them I wanted proof of such letter. They said there is nothing they can do and that they believe the affiliate and the affiliate claimed they have not heard from me since 2013 and hung up on me! Let me get this straight: 1) After telling me "Once you are approved for a Habitat house you are always approved. That is not the case. 2) They had almost 7 years to build me a home for my children and I but after getting divorced my income went down for an entire 3 months. Which "Supposedly unqualified me" making #1 a lie. 3)

In 2013 the affiliate told me I was not getting a house because a call I made BUT they mailed me a letter in 2012 supposedly? Why did the affiliate not just ask me about the letter? I'm outraged! !! I put in countless hours and now they feel it's okay to take away my hopes and dreams and lie so they don't have to build me a house! I'm not the only one they have done this too. When will Habitat ever have to take reasonability for crushing a family's dreams? On TV they look like Angels but what the public does not see? Their deception and lies. They call themselves Christian? Is this how Christians act? Someone needs to step up and do something. They should not be able to get away with this forever! !

Actually my income went down for a whole 2 months and I NEVER received such letter. If I did I would of responded and never wrote this report!! What's wrong is wrong. You should of made it right. Who in their right mind would IGNORE a letter! ? I would NOT have!

Being a Christian-based organization, Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, MO is concerned about and sensitive to any situations that may be percieved or represented as not representing the highest levels of honesty or integrity.

Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri’s mission is “a world where everyone has a decent place to live.”  Those of us at Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, MO do everything we can to ensure that partners who qualify and are accepted into our homebuyer program are given the tools needed to become successful homeowners.

As most people know, Habitat for Humanity does not “give away” homes but rather offers the chance to purchase a low-cost, high-quality home at a zero-interest mortgage to those who fulfil the requirements of the homebuyer program.  Our greatest joy is to see a Partner Homebuyer complete the requirements of the program and earn the right to purchase their Habitat home.

The Habitat for Humanity program selects partner home buyers based on three criteria – their need for a home, their ability to pay a low-cost, no-interest mortgage payment and their willingness to partner.

Occasionally, however, a homebuyer partner’s ability to pay their potential mortgage becomes compromised while in the program due to changes in their personal and/or financial situation.  Despite our attempts to work with a partner homebuyer, per guidance from Habitat for Humanity International (of which we are an affiliate) if there is a “Negative change in financial condition that significantly affects the ability to pay,” they can be deselected from the program.  This was, unfortunately, the case in this situation.   It is never stated or expressed that “once a person is approved for a Habitat home they are always approved,” as has been implied.

We recently stressed in a letter to this former potential homebuyer that they were welcome to reapply if their financial circumstances improved and stabilized. We had not heard from them since then until we were informed of this complaint.

Blessings
