Complaint Review: Grand Mayan Resort scam - Puerto Vallarta, Other

MAYAN RESORTS ARE A SCAM!! DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!! I BOUGHT A PACKAGE WHICH INCLUDED 3 WEEKS THAT I COULD (SUPPOSEDLY) USE OR RENT. THEY USED DECEIT AND TOLD LIES IN ORDER TO GET ME TO SIGN! Lie #1) We were assured that we could rent each of our 3 weeks per year for at least $2600 profit to us (per week), using one of their associated marketing companies. During the sales presentation, I asked at least 3 times, “Does that mean that we will receive $7800 per year for our 3 weeks?” Carlos answered, “Absolutely…virtually 100%...You can receive even more as the rental values increase over the years”. THE TRUTH is that the weeks are often not rentable through these companies. There are no guarantees, and the companies won’t provide any written proof of previous rentals to other people (only assurances over the telephone). I have found hundreds (thousands) of complaints against Vida Vacations (Grand Mayan, Mayan Palace) concerning this same fraudulent activity. I can provide many of those statements if you desire to see them. Lie #2) Carlos told me several times that my entire purchase amount could be reimbursed at any time I requested. I asked this question on several occasions. Carlos’ associate also confirmed this. They both stated that I could receive even more than the purchase price back in a few years due to increasing real estate value. THE TRUTH: This is an outright lie... the hand written documents were taken away, so I have nothing to show you. I sent an email asking to cancel and then called Vida Vacations several times, starting on June 29, and finally got to talk to a representative, Josh Garcia. Josh stated, “Your contract will not be canceled, and your money will not be refunded, no matter what….so you can forget about that.” Lie #3) PURCHASE OF MY PRESENT TIMESHARES THAT I OWN. We were told that the 2 Timeshares that we presently owned would be “traded in” against the purchase price (Vida would buy them and take them for resale). I had wanted to sell my Timeshares in the past, so this was important to me to be free of the yearly maintenance fees. THE TRUTH: I contacted my timeshare companies, and I was told that this “scam” has been happening to many people. The general manager of Swan Mountain Resort (one of my timeshares) stated that none of these companies like Vida have done what they have promised the consumer. (See letter from Swan Mountain general manager, Document 4). As you can see, we were lied to and deceived in several areas, and we would not have signed the contract and given a deposit if we had known the truth. We were told other lies that I have not discussed, but would be happy to elaborate further if you would like. Burcham Eyecare aurora col Certainly, our first desire was to have access to a beautiful resort every year, but the lies about promised benefits of 1) guaranteed rental for $2600 per week each year, 2) guaranteed return of purchase price upon request, and 3) purchase of our Timeshares (freedom from yearly maintenance fees) were what made us agree and sign. Only later did we see the thousands of complaints on the internet…and talk with the general manager of Swan Mountain Resort to get the truth. The Mayan Resorts rely on the fact that most people won’t realize they have been lied to until many months later, when none of the promises come true, and the money is long gone. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH MAYAN RESORTS LIKE THE GRAND MAYAN!!! DON'T EVEN GO THERE!! CERTAINLY DON'T ATTEND A PRESENTATION!! THEY WILL DECEIVE AND LIE, THEN REMOVE THEIR HANDWRITTEN NOTES SO THAT YOU SIGN SOMETHING MUCH LESS!
