Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
The enrollment counselor did so much to get me enrolled at GCU On-line Masters of Education Program. There was a lot of support in the first class and low student numbers at first.

After the first class, the number of participants increased dramatically and there was precious little student support (no assigned Academic Counselor or follow up with progress in program). When contacting the University about issues with neighbors who were unsafe, they were completely unsympathetic about my academic concerns. After failing three courses, the required me to take all three over again and refused in an appeal addressing the needs of a Disabled Veteran, they denied my request.

One of their employees solicited me over the phone to get involved in a personal and family business. To make a long story short, that was an expensive mistake. It was not my fault the employee used company time, resources, and students to steal company time!

Had the Academic counselor called me back when I called 2 1/2 weeks ago, than I would not have had to call the Provost's Office to respectfully request that my "ASSIGNED ACADEMIC COUNSELOR" call me back to process my request to take a leave of absence? Due to the delay, the University is forcing me to pay for the course and complete the course with excellent scholarship or face the consequences.

Fortunately for me, I had another accredited University advise me to get a School withdrawal Clearance Letter. I am being forced against my will (coercion) to stay at GCU until the end of August. Presently I hold a 3.95 average after failing 3 courses. I have worked hard and find precious little support from them, except their Technical Support is most helpful and responsive.

Once GCU got a hold of my Financial Aide, the University kept up with tactics to deter me from carrying out my decision. The employees kept milking me for more information, begging me to change my mind, and I am not changing my mind.

What prompted me to make this decision was in a Collaborative Learning Community Group Project was ALL of my efforts and work contributions were categorically rejected by the Group. When I turned to the Instructor, her response was to fault me completely. She demand I complete my portion at the last minute (She was saying I was being obstinate and unwilling to work with the group) and for me to take another approach.

After consulting with Tech-Support, not the Academic Counselor, I was advised to write to the instructor and post all of my work in an attachment. This I did and the Instructor informed me NOT to LECTURE her. After complaining to the Provost's Office, her tune changed.

I am afraid that the University will retaliate against me through my academic coursework.

The family of the employee who solicited me for the personal and family business tried so hard to prevent me from finding out about this problem of fraud.

Went to visit GCU in the middle of June. The employee's mother-in-law invited me to stay in her home for a week. They were so warm, friendly, and treated me so well. What was odd was the employee did not talk with me on the phone, meet me on the Campus, or have lunch together. I came such a long ways from Florida; I came in peace and friendship. How come she did not even take the time to call and cancel? After reading the site, I completely understand. Now I know.

After arriving home, the mother-in-law will not talk with me, she has completely turn 180. This was the information I needed. The mother-in-law did share with me that her daughter-in-law got into some difficulty with the University for their combined marketing efforts on campus. Perhaps other students like me got stuck with product that the Company will not take back once one is a Business Partner, nor will the mother-in-law take the product back or exchange it because again "IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!"

From the mother-in-laws perspective of the GCU Enrollment Counselor's theft of company time, soliciting students for personal business on the University's campus and equipment, and conflict of interest, "It is OK for a GCU Student to pay for the product and further THEIR financial interests, but when it comes time for the Student's best interests to be involved...SCREW THE STUDENT! LET THEM PAY FOR IT! It all makes sense now (hindsight is 20/20, for those who are willing to learn from their mistakes).

The best things to come out of this experience are two things:

After taking the scientifically formulated technology in a shake, I have recovered my health in over a year. For 21 years I suffered from a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), severe migraine headaches, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and depression stemming from serving the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany and the Gulf War.

Questions I had:

1. Where did the student support go after the first class?

2. What happened to the Enrollment counselor, where did go, into the black hole of life?

3. Could GCU provided more support to help me complete the three courses I failed, so I did not have to pay for two semester more and delay future employment prospects and be gainfully employed?

4. How come the mother-in-law of the Enrollment Counselor who enrolled me invited me into her home for a full week and treaded me so kindly? What was that all about?

5. How come the mother-in-law took me to GCU's campus and the daughter-in-law, (i.e. the Enrollment Counselor refuse to have any communication with me? What did I do? (Nothing).

6. How come the mother-in-law refused to help me renew my business to purchase the life-giving/saving food science technology I need to maintain my current health and welfare?

7. How come the mother-in-law refused to purchase back or exchange the product I have no need for? If she does this for me, than all of the other students they solicited (fraud) on GCU's campus can ask for the same exchange or reimbursements'. Fact chance in hell, my friend!

Can't fault everyone...

#2Consumer Comment

Mon, October 12, 2009

Well, I hate to say it, but some of the things you complain about here are results of your own actions.

First, regardless of who, how, where, when you were recruited into a business, you willingly signed on. As a consumer you should exercise better decision making and not fault everyone else for your decision. GCU didn't solicit you into a business, a person did.

Even though the person used company time and resources, they did not represent the company in this aspect. Most companies have stern penalties for people who do what this person did. It should be reported, but it has nothing to do with the rest of the staff.

Second, while reading all these complaints about schools like GCU (UoP, AIU, WIU, Devry, etc.) there is a common theme. People who enroll in an ACADEMIC PROGRAM, in an institution of higher learning, and think it will be easy. You had problems with your neighbors? How is compensating for that the responsibility of the school? Addressing the needs of a disabled person is a required function of the school, however, only to the extent it has to do with your relationship with the school.

It is unlikely anyone is forcing you to do anything. Institutions of higher learning are very heavily regulated. If you want to withdraw, write a letter stating such. Be specific. They have no choice but to comply with your wishes. If they don't, seek legal action. That's not to say they won't give you advice and offer different courses of action, but they ultimately must respect your wishes.

Lastly, maybe you were coming across as obstinate and/or unwilling in your work with the CLC. It's very easy to mean one thing but come across a different way. And of course the instructor's approach changed after you went to the Provost. Your attitude would change too if someone complained about you to an executive of your company.

I Am So Sorry For What Happened to You

I am so sorry for the way you have been treated by GCU. I too suffer from a multitude of illnesses and this school pushed me to the point of trying to committ suicide. Luckily for me and my family it was a failed attempt. They have taken my money and are, like you, holding me prisoner. I signed up to take psych 101, a virus infected Angel, I was the first to see it, contacted tech support who knew nothing about it. They were supposed to keep me informed and did for about a week. Then I was told it was safe. I went back in and Norton immediately tossed me out. Then I couldn't even get to their website because it was considered dangerous. I was fortunate. I had a wonderful admittance/enrollment counselor. He tried to help me as much as he could. I never knew the name of my academic counselor as he never bothered to introduce himself. His name was Josh Smith. My enrollment counselor informed him of everything that was going on and since my next class was Psych 315 I couldn't take that class because passing psych 101 was a prerequisite. He never called me with a new class. He never called me period. Finally after getting my computer fixed I emailed him and he told me this was all my fault and I would be receving F's for both classes and would have to pay for them because I didn't follow school protocol. They just took me for $2490 for two classes I could not take because of a virus that infected my computer at their website and gave me two F's. I was a 4.0 GPA student. I am at a loss. I want out of this school because they can't be trusted. I am missing about $2000 in financial aid money, plus the $2490 they stole from me and how do I transfer to another school with two F's on my gpa? I do feel as if I am being held hostage but if they will treat a United States Veteran the way they have, I now know I have no chance of ever being treated fairly. They screwed up. It should have been an easy fix, give me back my money and remove the F's. I was supposed to get two free classes and the F's removed but guess what, didn't happen. I just wanted you to know you are not alone. I guess the only thing I can do is contact an attorney but first I am going to contact my senator and my congressmen and let them know what this school in AZ is doing to students from other states and what they are doing with federal funds. It may not help but who knows? Maybe they will light a fire under their butts and make them doing something honest for a change. Who would have thought a Christian University would behave this way? But judging from the caliber of Christians I have run into at this unversity I am not surprised. They are some of the rudest, nastiest people I have ever met. My last class, psych 101 which I actually got to take this time, was the best class I have taken so far because it wasn't run by religious fanatics who are not the nicest people to be around and God forbid if your opinion is different than theirs because they will shut you out and treat you like garbage. It is a sad sad state of affairs when a school is allowed to be run like this.

I salute you and thank you for your bravery in the war and for standing up and writing this letter an letting me know I am not in this fight alone. God Bless You.
