I signed up for Globalinx digital phone service in July, 2007. I told their rep that I wished to keep my present Internet connection and phone number. The rep checked with her rep who thought this was possible. I paid for a year's service, $299 plus $41 in additional fees.

It took over 30 days for my phone company to port my current number to Globalinx. At that time they requested my Internet modem be returned and gave me a shut off date. Not wanting to change my ISP, I took the equipment from Globalinx back to the Rochester office and said I didn't want the service because I would have to change my ISP. A gentleman at their office assured me that I was wrong and could indeed keep my present ISP and phone number. He also said that they would be unable to refund any of my deposit ($340) so I should call Frontier (current ISP) and discuss it with them. Not wanting to lose my $340, I took the equipment back home.

I talked with 4 different reps at Frontier and they all said that in order to keep my current phone number, I had to have my Internet service with them. The shut off date came so I changed my ISP to Time Warner Road Runner. I was not happy with Road Runner because they didn't give me the kind of storage I need for my ebay auction photos. I e-mailed them about this and got no reply. Finally I decided to try hooking up the phone. I couldn't get it to work and as soon as I hooked it up the Internet wouldn't boot. The final straw with Globalinx was learning that to hook up an additional phone was going to cost me another $100 and I would have to run a cable from the downstairs phone to the upstairs phone.

I took the box back to the Rochester office and changed my Internet service back to Frontier. On my next credit card bill there was a charge for $103.90 to disconnect and a charge for $16.19. I don't know what that one was for. In total, I paid Globalinx $460.41 for a service I never used! Not for 1 day. They didn't even credit me the promised $49 for returning the box.

it isn't 5linx's responsibility to port the no it's your current provider's decision to do so. att took a month and a half to let go of my account and when I ported the no I didn't notify att to leave the high speed internet ON so I was without phone and intenet for a week and it wasn't 5linx's fault it was my fault,so it would probably be a good idea to get a separate line put in for the internet you need to provide service to your 5linx phone then disconnect the other lines when you have successfully connected the other for your 5linx phone as it needs high speed dsl or cable to work.Your current provider makes the decision when to cut you loose from their services.5linx is at their mercy.
