I requested to turn off the power more than a year ago and called two different time and asked if the power is off and I want to make sure I won't get any bill and they said ok... everything is done. I didn't receive bill but boom...... after more than a year and I try to turn the power back on. They said that I have to pay back those whole year bill and on top of that that is my fault that i didn't pay so they charge me $30 late fees.   I asked why? I didn't even have a bill and you charge me late fees?  then they didn't answer my question, since they asked me to get a deed to go to office and I was rushing to turn the power on so I asked my friend to turn the power on.  My friend went to GA power office, the lady, Latonya Palm said if you don't accept the responsibilty for the bill, they will not turn the power on! I don't understand why he is a separeted individual and why they asked him to take responsibility?  Anyways, he needs to go back to work so in rush he said yes he will take responsibility. But when he asked how much the person owe.  She said she didn't know because she is not accountants.

So I went and talked to them when I have time, they said now you are not responsible, my friend is responsible because he said so.. so they don't answer me why they charge me late charge anymore.... Be AWARE people who lives in GA and using Georgia Power, they trick people.... do not say SAY YES if you will be responsible for the bill.  They will use that against you!  and not to be reasoning with you.   According to Latonya Palm, I need to ASKED FOR "METER" turn off and ASK for "I want to make sure NOBODY will receive any bill."

Monopoly company sucks... Where is our freedom of choice???? why don't use just open my wallet and take all of my hard earning money home.   Karma Ms. Palm, one day you are dealing with other big company, I will see how calm you are if they are trying to trick you and rip you off.  What comes around goes around!  I hope government will deregulate it so that we have choice.  Competition is the key. Without that, big company can do whatever they want!  Especially this is someone we need eletricity!!!! My area don't have other choice except Georiga power!!! Georgia Power is not honest and I don't like them to make money with dishonest behavior... they don't deserve my money!!!!

Also try to think about that, nobody lives there and nobody using the electricity and it is still over $10 to $20 each month they charged me.  It is not fair, I hate monopoly. Especially with something that everyone needs. Electricity is a must to have so the company knows.  I hope government will degulate the electricity company so that more companies in the business or at least I do have a choice to choose, as a big country in USA. Freedom of choice. I am disappointed and disappointed with someone who is probably either work for Georgia Power or related to them and said that I need to grow up and I am sneaky.  Instead I just don't have time to go because I work long working hours.  I was just trying to talk to them later in the office but my friend needs to use the electricity already on that day.   Because we didn't want to cheat the system, they didn't turn it off, we probably can use it if we are dishonest without telling them.  But no, when we have someone lives in there we want to do it right, that's how I found out they charged. So I don't know why that I am being sneaky to ask my friend to turn on the electricity.  He lives there now so he turns it on, there is nothing sneaky about that.  If you go rent an apartment you turn everything on and off without your landlord involve right? you and me are different people. He is not my husband, we are not related.... I don't understand.

The other person who comments on my post, I want to thank you to tell me what I did wrong too. Any advice or comments are welcome.  I am a grow up that is willing to take anyone's comment or advice about what I said and I will take responsibility on what I said too. I did pay everything already too since my friend said he would take responsibility on everything.  But be a nice person and using your word nicely. You don't know me and I don't know you but it doesn't mean you can use "hell" or "s***" kind of words to others.

 Hi Robert,

Thank you for reading my post and like I said I called them to disconnect the power and asked twice in different dates and talked to different people and they said i will get no more bill.  You know if you connect the fridge to the outlet, it will consume some electricity right?  So the whole year $20 each month even nobody in the house to use it.  You are exactly right.  Don't you think this is so fishy about that?  If a normal, honest company, if you don't pay for the bill, they will cut out the service.  Georgia power no only didn't cut it out and they didn't send any bill to anyone that did live in that place.  Nobody knows they charged... Nowadays, who will go to the office to cancel any service unless you are being to do so?  Everything on the internet or phone etc.  I called comcast, At&T or gas to switch or cancel service and I had never heard that I have to physically to go to any office to do stuffs nowadays.   So can't you see why I am mad with them?  Plus if you search for Georgia Power, I am not the only one that has problem with them.

Thank you for your post.

So what is the full story..because you are not telling it.

First of all NO utility company is going to let a person get more than a couple of months delinquent before they cut off the electricty.  So it is impossible that you would owe an entire year's worth.

Who was in this house using all of this electricity?

As for your friend, well of course if they say they will take responsibility you will no longer be responsible.  Why if they were such a dis-interested party were they so willing to take responsibility so you could get the electricty turned on?  Perhaps they had a vested interest in the electricty being turned on?

First you make a couple of "phone calls" and expect that your demands will be met. Second you attempt to circumvent the bill payment issue by having someone else take responsability for YOUR bill and then wonder WHY they will not talk to you. Third, you have handled this situation POORLY from the begining.

Let me address your issues one at a time. Your first issue was that you JUST made a few calls. You did not go to the office in person and handle your business like an adult. The most they will be able to do over the phone is suspend service. This means that you FAILED yourself. Had you originally gone to the main office then you wouldnt be in this situation. No, instead you chose to "make a call" and left it on sheer luck to ensure the power was disconnected.

Second issue. You attempted to circumvent the bill payment process by having SOMEONE ELSE apply for power instead.Once that person took responsability for the bill, they are no longer allowed to even discuss the issue with you anymore. Had you worked this out with them, you may have gotten this issue resolved with a minimum payment. But since you tried to be sneaky about it, its NOW going to cost you alot.

Third. Stop being a little crybaby. The person you have to deal with doesnt make the descions. They have a job to do. Just because you dont like what you are hearing is NO REASON to abuse the employees. Only scummy s***** dirtbags do that. So because YOU failed to get the power disconnected, YOU feel you can abuse the staff. Grow the hell up and stop acting like a child. You are a grown adult and its about time you start taking responsability for YOUR mistakes and quit blaming other ppl. THEY did not fail you, YOU failed you.

This is not a true ripoff nor is it a scam. This is yet another American consumer looking for ANY excuse to not pay what they legally owe and is looking to blame someone else for mistakes on their part.l
