Irene, Usually people are upset because they don't understand how insurance works. Unfortunately if you do not receive a bill, that doesn't mean you don't have to make a payment. Geico offers many different payment options to totally avoid this from happening in the first place. We don't control what the DMV fines you in the state of New York, the DMV controls that. Naturally if your policy cancels we do report to the dmv that you no longer have insurance. Every insurance company does this. Most states take a lapse of insurance seriously, and sometimes fines are a penalty for having such a lapse. If you call Geico you can make a payment over the phone, in which case you get credit that day for doing the payment. So we do offer options other than having to mail in the payment, which runs the risk of it not even getting to us. When you do send a check in the mail, you will also want to check with your bank to see if it has cleared. If it hasn't, well then you should assume we either didn't get it, or there is some sort of problem. In either case you would want to call Geico and advise us of your situation, and we would be glad to give you your payment options. We pride ourselves on being an ethical company.

Bill, I see your an employee of GEICO - this is very exciting. I am sure even as an employee you agree that GEICO sucks. Every single GEICO employee in customer support(funny wording -customer support) heads checked out. You along with your counterparts have been SCREWING with every customer one way or another. Why don't you have a meeting with your WANNABE managers and explain that there are Class Action suits being formed against GEICO due to inappropriate business practices. The customer service reps at GEICO sound so un-educated (VERY SAD). The position you all hold must be a last resort to complete failure in life. Before criticizing a comment from someone who got screwed by GEICO look at what you do for a living and look at the SCMUCKS you work for!! GEICO SUCKS!!!!!!

Irene, People like you amaze me. You have a bill that you're supposed to pay every month, yet you blame everyone but yourself when you fail to pay it. You say that the payment got lost in the mail. Is the GEICO's fault??? GEICO mailed you a cancelation notice that got lost in the mail. Is that GEICO's fault??? NO on both counts. You could also blame the post office, but let me ask you this. Did you ever stop to wonder why the check that you sent GEICO never cleared your checking account? Do you ever check your checking account? Do you ever check you GEICO policy online at our website? Do you ever check your account status on our 24 hour automated line? Did you know you can pay online or over the phone and you policy is credited instantly? And last but not least, do you EVER take responsibility for you own actions or mistakes??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Also, GEICO has no late fees in ANY of the 49 states that we insure in. That $55.00 you're talking about is probably an Earned Premium balance. That means that we kept you covered past the date you were paid to.
