GE's bad faith and Breach of Warranty re: Compaq 1235 laptop
I bought a Compaq 1235 laptop in December of 1998. My Circuit City salesman convinced me to purchase a 4-year extended warranty. I paid several hundred dollars for the warranty, and it is not worth the paper it is written on. I have had the laptop sent in no less than four times for serious problems, including: defective floppy drive, sound card stutter, mouse tracking malfunctions, and an internal power problem that began with the battery not holding a charge and ended up with the adapter connection causing a "meltdown" where the connecter enters the back of the laptop. These problems have been recurring over the past three years. I have kept a detailed service record and I know every date I had contact with GE, and to whom I spoke. I travel a lot for business and I need my laptop. More importantly, I *paid* for an extended warranty that is not being honored. When GE takes my laptop in for service they ship it out to a subcontractor, and the last time it was sent back to me UNTOUCHED. I am done playing games with them.
I am a licensed, practicing attorney in New Hampshire. I already found out that GE Zurich has been in trouble for their business practices in Dallas (I think that is where they are based). I want to identify as many people as posible who have been cheated on their warranties. I am also investigating Circuit City and I plan to send Compaq a report regarding their egregious behavior. The new CEO at Compaq will not be happy with the results of my investigation.
