My husband and I purchased a TV via Ultimate Electronics on the 3rd of November on a promotional plan-no interest if paid within 18 months. We sent our first payment and it was posted to our account 12/3 (we calculated how much we needed to pay each month to have it paid off within the 18 months) and it was credited on time.

However, we weren't sent a statement in December for the January payment. And, since it was a busy month with the holidays, we didn't notice that we didn't have it. Then, when we got a statement late in January for the Febuary payment we were charged $29. At that point, I thought well we've already been charged the fee so we may as well just pay a "double" payment in February (our due date is the 14th). We mailed our payment on the 4th.

Then, at 9pm on the 5th, I got a phone call from a representative wanting to know if I would make a phone payment. I declined as we had just mailed the "double payment" the day before. I have never been called like that before and I have had a lot of accounts with different companies. We have excellent credit and we haven't "skipped" a bunch of payments. We've barely had the account 90 days!!

Now, I'll bet that the late fee is just the beginning and they'll try to tack the interest onto the account by saying that we violated the agreement (sneeky). So far, the interest amounts to $200.00. What a scam!

I called the company today and asked what their web address is so I could access account info on-line and make payments to ensure timely pay in the future and "Brian" told me that they don't have a web address for that purpose and "We're sorry". That is awefully strange since every major company already has that available. And since there is no local way to physically make a payment to prevent this in the future, GE is free to fool around with payments by mail.
