Today my family and friends celebrated my daughter's 10th birthday at Galaxy Roller Rink in Groton. We never thought that a happy event would end up finishing with police escorting family and guests out the door. It all started at the conclusion of the party. It was time to pay the bill. I noticed a mistake on the head count. So I thought simple mistakeswe (owner and me) are both mature adults. I tried to explain to the waitress first, that she miscounted my guests. She simply told me to pay now and then bring the slip to the manager/owner and explain it to him and he'll fix it.

Before I could handle my problem, a very disappointed and angry mom was venting her frustration on the manager. I stood there patiently and wondered if he would even listen to me. After she walked away, I greeted him with a smile and simply said, I believe there is a mistake with my bill. I counted 11 heads and you charged me for 12. He began to explain to me that one of my guests brought 4 children and that she would have to pay for her children.

I simply stood there in complete shock and said to my self, How could you ask one of my guests to pay for her children? I tried once again to explain my situation. I have 11 children accounted for including my guest with the 4 children, not 12. I was overcharged and please refund me the $7.50. He then told me that he doesn't give refunds and offered 2 free passes at my leisure. I was so confused by his response. I stated to him that I was not interested in his offer and that I just wanted bill adjusted accordingly. He then said he would discuss it with the waitress and closed the door.

I then proceeded back to my table in utter disbelief that this man did not believe me and has no intensions of giving me back my money. My husband noticed my look of confusion and disbelief as I proceeded back to my table. He then wanted to make sense out of this miscommunication. Before my husband could settle the matter calmly, the manager/owner called the authorities.

After listening to both parties' stories, the police officer concluded that there was nothing he could do for us. He also stated that he has answered several calls to this establishment for the similar reasons. So after being humiliated in front of friends and family, I just wonder what are we teaching our youth today? Is ok to steal from unsuspected patrons? Is it ok to do what we want because we own the place? How do we put a stop to this from happening again? I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else again.

My husband and I would like to apologize to all of our lovely guests for subjecting them to such an awful establishment.

Jay
