It doesn't sound like you were treated very well. The banks behavior is typical of banks that go "Global-online", or "National". It seems like they lose any concern for their customers, and profitmaking is the one and only priority. Local banks still have some humanity left. They need their customer base, so they will give out perks, breaks, and treat you better overall. If and when you look for a new bank, ask them are your National, Statewide or Local-Regional? Get a listing of all their branches. If they're local, State or Regional, stay with them. The odds are they will treat you better, and help you learn about banking and building good credit. The only time they change certain fees or rules is to stay out of the red or because it is a State or Federal requirement. Of coarse, someone might have a story about a local, or Statewide bank that stinks, but the National and Global are worse. Whatever inconvenience the local might have is nothing compared to the nightmares through nationals. Thank you for the warning. I might look into Wachovia to find out more about customer misstreatment later. Rip-off Report Volunteer

I banked with Wachovia for a number of years til I got smart about what they were doing and I left and went to First Federal Bank. No problems there at all. First Federal gives you immediate credit on all your deposits as you may them. Then they go through what's outstanding and deduct from the accound. Wachovia does not do that. They told me when I went into the office to talk to them that they hold all deposits while the do all the deductions first. Then they do the deductions and then yyour deposits are put in. That's when you get hit with the NSF fees and everything esle. They told me they did it that way for a pourpose. To benefit them and they can make more money off us. No amount of arguing or pleading with them will help. They says it's our fault.

It may seem like a headache to read your "Terms of Aggreement", but there may be helpful information in that agreement to help you. Unfortunatly, it might also state "they reserve the right to withdraw and deposit any amount, whenever they choose" (not in those exact words). Whatever merge with www.wachovia.com occurs this will not be applicable for you, as an account holder prior to the merge. The math on this one is unclear to me. It sounds like you deposited money to cover checks written, but the deposit transaction was not acknowledged soon enough by the bank. This can happen and is not unusual. For example, at my bank, if I deposit any given amount after 1:00pm, this deposit will not appear, until the next day. If I am in a pinch, I would have to make an early morning deposit to cover all incoming checks. They have to tell you how their depositing system works. At my bank, they have signs everywhere. They also mailed the info to us in writing. One way or another, they have to tell you, or you cannot be held accountable for the oversight. You can rebuild your credit, and dispute the overdraft fees, but it wont be easy. Hope it works out. Rip-off Report Volunteer
