Ms. Dering's modus operandi is to make accusations devoid of evidence. One last item I forgot to address is her assertion that "rais(ed) (our) rates and fees." Interest and storage are set by the laws of the State of Michigan, not by Federal Collateral. Any change in these is in conformity with State law, whether they go up or down. The pawn rates charged in the State of Michigan are the lowest in the 50 United States, and the last time they were changed was over a decade ago, when the first change in approximately eighty years was enacted.

A point-by-point response to the previous matters brought up by this individual: 1. We didn't return your call because you failed to leave a telephone number, we don't have caller ID, and a search of the internet failed to divulge your number. 2. The complaint was made without affording us any ability to respond. 3. I assure you that any snide remarks made since you have been in our store were motivated by your cowardly and libelous complaint and, had we known about your posting on ripoffreport.com, we would have refused to continue to do business with you ever again and insisted that you redeem your collateral outright, rather than renew it, which it is our privilege to do. 4. What you refer to as our "lower lever of service" has to do with steam cleaning customer's jewelry upon redemption. We do not have a functioning steam cleaner, we do not have the time to clean jewelry redeemed from pawn because it would entail the neglect of other customers (jewelry is always returned in the same state of cleanliness with which it is pawned), and our insurance carrier advises us that, in cleaning jewelry not belonging to us, we are assuming liability for anything occurring to the jewelry (such as stones falling out). Please, Ms. Dering, act upon your dissatisfaction with our customer service and stop doing business with us. Get your items out of pawn and cease all future business with us. You are clearly a person who is willing to launch venomous diatribes against others with only the scantiest of alleged "evidence."

In response to Mr. Harris's inability to let this matter die, I too would like to make a few points: 1. I left my phone number on the recording You didn't bother to return my call! 2. I apologized using the same method in which I made the complaint! 3. I've since been in your establishment several times in the past year. Rather than making snide comments off in a corner, you could have made your feeling known to me directly, not to other members of my family. 4. The bottom line is this could have been avoided, had your establishment not lowered its level of service, while at the same time raising your rates and fees. I was surprised to be confronted today by one of the owners of Federal Collateral, regarding this issue. I apologized and retracted the statements in the same medium in which the complaints were made the very next day. Perhaps he was expecting more flowery language. The owners aren't taking any responsibility for their establishment's part in this misunderstanding. As stated in my original complaint, my Mother had done business with this company for over 25 years, before her passing in '96. Her jewelry had ALWAYS been steam cleaned prior to being returned to her. When I got my ring back, the dirt under one of the prongs had calcified, as the ring had been in their possession for over a year. To say my complaint was baseless is false! Yes, it was erroneous, but my ring was returned to me dirty, which made the stone appear to have an inclusion. Federal Collateral is not supplying the same level of service as they did in prior years. (i.e., steam cleaning jewelry prior to it being returned to the customer.)

The filer of this report retracted it, as can be seen if one looks CAREFULLY. As she will acknowledge, the report was utterly baseless and without any merit whatsoever. We have been in continuous operation at our current location in Downtown Detroit since 1914 and NEVER-not once-has anyone successfully alleged that their collateral was tampered with while in our custody. The filer of this report, without even giving us the opportunity to respond to her baseless allegation, flew off the handle and left us a voice mail message with her assertion and, as I have just now come to learn many months later, filed this report. After filing this report she left us another voice mail the following day apologizing for the erroneous accusation. That's well and good. But I would like to make the following three points: 1. She didn't give us the courtesy to confront her directly (rather than speaking to our answering machine) when she accused us. 2. She didn't have the courtesy to speak to us directly (again rather than speaking to our answering machine) when she apologized. 3. The initial report is still online, albeit with a barely-visible retraction. Kimberly should have gone much further and HAD THE REPORT REMOVED. I "googled" the name of our business, Federal Collateral, and the FIRST ITEM TO APPEAR IN THE RESULTS IS KIMBERLY'S REPORT. I cannot tell you how hurt we are at her report and her feeble efforts to retract it. Alan Harris Federal Collateral

I would like to retract the statement about Federal Collateral Jeweler/Pawnbroker, Detroit, MI. My husband took my ring to our jeweler and had him take a look at it. Our jeweler steam cleaned the stone and the blimish reflecting within the stone went away. I apologize for any inconvenience this may caused. Sincerley, Kim
