I ordered a dress and a pair of shoes through Essence By Mail on or around April 8, 2001 for $110.00, including $9.95 Shipping and Handling. The items were allegedly sent to a fictitious city and zip code and then returned to Essence By Mail but no one bothered to contact me about the "mishap." Instead, I found out three weeks later (around April 30) when calling to trace the order. At that point, I was told that the items would be that the dress was on "back order" for two months and the shoes on "back order" for 1 month. I changed the size of the shoe to an available size which they assured me was being shipped immediately. For my troubles and patience, they offered to send me a $20.00 gift letter.

On May 21, I called again to find out where my shoes were and were told that no such order even EXISTED. To this date, I never received the gift letter and I have been lied to by this company whose legitimacy is questionable, at best. No items have ever been sent, my money has been taken, no gift rebate has been issued.

"Essence By Mail" must be STOPPED!

I have ordered at least three times and received my items on time in good condition. The quality of the clothing was good and the size I ordered was the size I wear. I am receiving a magazine in the mail to replace the EBM magazine but have not ordered anything because the style is not the same. I miss EBM.

I don't know if EBM had a lot of negative complaints in the past, and if they did I just don't see them not trying to make it right. I was very satisfied with my purchases in the past. My last one in 2000 came right on time for my cruise to mexico, a cute little outfit that came with it's own shoulder bag, T-shirt, and sarong skirt with the essence female head emblem on the shirt, I received a lot of compliments about the outfit that made me fill good, because I was the only one on the whole ship with it. Will EBM start the by mail up again? I hope so. If not, they will be sadly missed.

I remarried in February of 2002 and ALL dresses for the bridal party were ordered thru Essence by Mail and we encountered NO problems. Everything came in a time fashion and was perfect. I cannot thank Essence by Mail enough. I wll never understand why there can be 1,000 positive responses but we pay attention to the ONE negative response. I will miss EBM.

The only disappointment that I have is that EBM is no longer in existence. I think bad experiences happen within any company. It very well may have been a particular employee apposed to the company itself. I have purchased quality products and was very pleased. Are they coming back?

I can only say I was very pleased with what I received from Essence by Mail. I think they are a fine company and only some type of problem happen and a misunderstanding took place. Please give the lady a certificate or offer her a comparable replacement of some sort if she can prove her payment by receipt, check etc.

I would just like to say that I order from the Essence by Mail catalog about once every 2-3 months and have never had a problem. What about the good stuff that the company does. They do offer quality products and they do deliver. Don't make generalizations because of what happened to you. It's not fair. I have never had a problem in the 3 years that I have been a customer.
