On July 8th 2010 I called Dish Network for service. They were running a promotion, and it seamed to be less expensive than my previous cable company. There were several things Dish Network did that I would consider a little fraudulent or bad faith.

1. While talking with the representative to set up service he told me it would cost me $124.73 to get my service started. This included the first month and a deposit. The representative ran my bank card and told me the tech would be out tomorrow to set up my Dish. So at that point I was excited to be trying a new service. Just before he was going to tell me we "will see you tomorrow", he said I was going to have to pay another $60. for set up. Well, I didn't have $60 for set up so he passed me over to his manager who told me that he would take care of me and use some promotional coupons to take care of the $60. What was odd to me about that whole situation was when I asked how much this was all going to cost me before we even started the process there was nothing said about the $60. If they have these kind of fees they need to tell you up front. not wait till the end after they have run your credit card or bank card for the first part. This is a bit fraudulent to me.

2. When the Dish tech came out to set up, he told me that he couldn't set up the dish because of the way my building was positioned (I live in an Apartment), and the fact that their were trees blocking so we wouldn't be able to get a good connection with the Satellite. Second he told me that I would have also needed the property manager to sign off on some paperwork. So here again, this was another situation where the representative should have asked questions about my apartment building to see if we could have set up in the first place, and also asked if the property manager allows satellite on the property before running my bank card.

3. July 13th 2010 my refund still had not been returned to my bank account. I contacted my bank, and they informed me that Dish Network had charged a $10, a $1, and another $1. Dish networks reasoning was that they needed to make sure they had access to my account in order to refund the money. Dish network never informed me that they were going to hold extra money in my account. This is on the bad faith side as far as I'm concerned. So $124.73 is floating around in limo until these charges release.

4. July 14th 2010 the $12 dollar charges are supposed to fall off today. So the money should be in my account by tomorrow. I was back and fourth on the phone with Dish Network who said they have refunded the money and they can't do anything about this, and my bank's hands are tied, there is nothing they can do on their end till they receive the money.

5. July 15th 2010 the $12 dollar charges are credited back to my account but the $124.73 is nowhere to be found. My bank still has not received the money. I called Dish Network today and they said I could receive it by Monday July 19th. At first they told me I "would" receive my refund in 2 or 3 days. When the money didn't show up, they said it could take up to 5 days, and as of today they tell me it takes 7-10 days, and they can't do anything about this situation and followed up with apologies.

What bothers me about all if this, is the fact that Dish Network kept pertinent information from me till the last minute or didn't tell me at all before taking my money. They grabbed their money right away but stall around on refunding it. Not only did I not get service but at this moment I'm out $124.73 that I could be using toward a bill, groceries, and fuel. Their conduct is fraudulent and by not returning my money promptly it's bad faith.
