Hey man, I understand your frustration, and I'm very fair on how I judge things... but to be honest your story doesn't really sound legit.. Like the person before me said, it sounds like you had the premier package at the price of the nfl sunday ticket for a promo. Once the period expires you simply get billed the regular price for what packaging you have. Premier being 104.99 + 4.99/receiver (after the first), etc.. I work for DirecTV's billing/collections and if you don't return the receiver your account will be charged $55.00 for a standard receiver, $200.00 for a DVR, or $400.00 for an hd receiver.. if unpaid it will be sent to an outside collections agency and basically take a deep stab in your credit. Don't do that to yourself. Another thing, you already got part of your deposit back. DirecTV charges a 200.00 deposit for those with less than great credit, which they give back to you in the form of credits to your account over a period of time (usually $5.00 a month). So to be honest, the only thing that's really happened is you kept a receiver that's useless and only going to cost you in the end. Just call 1800-824-8828 and let the rep pull up your account. Ask for a hardware recovery kit to be sent to you. Mail back the receiver and the charge will be credited back (thus stopping collection calls and avoiding ruining your credit).

it sounds like you had the premier package free for 4 months if you subscribed to the nfl sunday ticket (4 payments of $74.95). the first thing that doesn't sound right is that you were reduced to the basic package afterwards. with that promo you are not reduced anything but the sunday ticket charges stopping. you begin paying full price for premier at the end of that promo at $104.99. another thing that does not make sense is that you state you were paying $80 a month for the basic package and that if you wanted more you would have to pay an extra $100 for more. so, you are saying you were going to have to pay $180 for the premier package? no. you weren't. if you were changed to the basic package someone in your home did the change. the smallest package is $29.99 and if you wanted the premier you would be paying $104.99 plus any add'l fees like add'l receivers, dvr service, hd access, etc. your decision to hold the receiver hostage is not hurting directv at all, it only hurts you. by not returning the leased receiver you are subjecting yourself to an equipment non-return fee which will cost you well over $200.00.

it probably states that the equipment must be returned before the deposit is returned. The deposit is basically incentive to return their equipment. If you don't return the equipment you can be charged with theft and they can bill you (in court if needed and easily win) the full amount of the equipment which is far more than your $200. I understand the point you're trying to make, but believe me, you will lose more in the end.
