Purchase a computer Thanksgiving 1999 weekend. CompUSA provided through Compuserve a rebate of $150.00 . I sent in the paperwork via parcel post registered receipt #Z1999523747. I got the green card back from the Compaq System Savings "2" Rebate address of POB 8446, Young America, Minnesota 55551-8446 showing that had been received on December 3, 1999. Eight, Nine Ten, Eleven, and now Twelve weeks have pasted and nothing in regards to a rebate has been received. I contacted them via e-mail and by phone, and they tell me they have no record of my filing, but that they are way behind, and hiring more people. The original paperwork said we would get something back in eight weeks, and it has been twelve weeks, and they cannot even find a record of certified mailing to them. What gives? What now?

By the way...I am under contract unfortunately with Compuserve for three years, and the internet service they provide is slow, unreliable, throws you out, and is limited in e-mail capability. I wish I could get out of the whole thing, but I cannot afford their penalties that come with it.

Tom Mello responded to my complaint at the BBB and at this site several days later personally.  I owe his response to the effectiveness of this site and that of BBB.

He made the repairs himself at no further cost to me and to my satisfaction.

I am left with the initial inconvienence but otherwise I am whole to the event.

Consumer beware:  Garage door repair is a lucrative business that demands you investigate who you are working with, and get cost comparisons between companies.  All the technicians responding say something slightly different is the problem and they will  "grease" it all differently.  The best thing to do in this industry to those who do not have the expertise, is if it is not broke, do not fix it...when it is broke...price shop and check consumer advocate sites such as this to make sure you are dealing with reputable companies who stand behind thier reputation and work.  While Tom Mello's staff did not impress me in this regard...Tom Mello himself... ultimately... certainly did.
