I don't expect anything to come from this as far as I am concerned, but after I found this website (wish I had found it sooner!!!), I felt I needed to voice my disapproval of this company so no one else gets the shaft like I did!!!

I purchased a refurbished Presario 7596 from the Compaq Factory Outlet website in December of 2000. I felt comfortable with purchasing refurbished because it sounded as if they were looked over better than the original product. (Directly from website: Refurbished: Includes returned units, evaluation units and cosmetically blemished units.

All products are re-tested by Compaq where replacement of components is performed, if necessary, to bring the product up to its original, fully functional condition. These come with a limited warranty covering parts, labor and 24/7 technical phone support. Warranty upgrades are available.) Approximately 4 months later, the CD Rom drive quit working.

I knew it was no easy task to get the computers worked on at Compaq (send it and wait a month...figured this out after being on phone with foreign tech that I couldn't even understand!) so, with time being an issue, I decided to replace the drive myself (I have built computers from scratch, so this wasn't my first time).

Then about another 2-3/4 months goes by and the hard drive goes. I am told that I will have to go back thru the manufacturer of the hard drive for a warranty replacement. When

I contacted the manufacturer, they informed me that, the drive was an old drive and had been out of warranty for some time. I asked how they could sell computers without warranty components and of course, they had no answer.

Well, needless to say, another month or so goes by and the motherboard whacks!!! I contact Compaq AGAIN. This time I am expecting to get a replacement for the entire computer, right?!?! Well, I am told that the "refurbished" computers only have a 90 day warranty. GEE, I WONDER WHY!!!!!

I decide to see if I can find a replacement motherboard by going thru Compaq's website and linking to a 3rd party reseller. I get in contact with one and tell them what I need. They email me back and tell me that the motherboard is obsolete and can't be replaced. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS S**T!?!?

I still have the piece of garbage because they wouldn't take it back, but it is just an expensive paperweight. RUN, DON"T WALK...AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM COMPAQ!!!! JUNK!! JUNK!!! JUNK!!! Oh, by the way, the Compaq monitor that we bought from Sears fried too, but they replaced that cause it was new!!! CROOKS!!!!
