We bought a new Compaq CPU on November 30, 2001, from Radioshack. On December 21, 2001, it quit working. We called Radioshack - the told us to call Compaq. We called Compaq and they gave us an authorization number to get it repaired. Since it wasn't even a month old - we decided that we didn't want to get it repaired - we wanted a new one. We called Radioshack back and told the manager this.

He made some calls and found one in a town outside of St. Louis. He said that the new CPU would be there on December 24, 2001. On Christmas eve we picked the new one up. We asked the manager at that time for a new receipt in case we had any problems. He told us that we didn't need a new receipt - if we had any problems - contact him.

He did write on our receipt "Exchanged 12/24/01" and put his initials on it. On January 4, 2002, this CPU quit working also. We contacted Compaq and they authorized it to be repaired. We decided that since we had been through 2 of these in the past 40 days that we didn't want this model anymore. Obviously there are problems with it.

On January 5, 2002, we took everything back to the store where we bought it and asked for a credit on our account. (We spoke to the same manager) He told us that he could not and would not authorize that. He did not offer to fix anything for us or issue a credit.

He wouldn't even look us in the eye because he knew that he had told us that if we had any problems to contact him. We have written letters to the head office in Texas. All we get back from them is that the manager is right because we only get 30 days from the original receipt.

It doesn't matter that we exchanged this. We have talked to our lawyer and he says that WE are in the right. We have tried to contact the district manager in St. Louis and he will not return our phone calls.

We sent him several letters also that have gone unanswered. I want everyone to know the way that they work their exchanges. We are talking about over $1000.00 here. To some people that isn't alot of money but to me it is and it stinks!

..finally got our money back

#20

Mon, June 17, 2002

We finally got our money back from Radioshack on this incident. It took 6 months but they finally got a district manager in St. Louis who has customer service in mind.

He called me on June 5th and told me that if I would send him all of the emails that I had sent to the last district manager about our case, he would have my refund to me by June 8th.

On June 8th, he called us and told us to return the CPU to the St. Ann store where it was purchased and our Radioshack account would be credited for the amount of the purchase. We went by his instructions and it has been taken care of now.

We will never buy anything from Radioshack again but it is good to know that this man has customer satisfaction in mind. Between The Rip-Off Report and the BBB and my constant complaining to anyone that would listen, we finally made it happen.
