Kenneth
Atlanta,#2UPDATE EX-employee responds
Mon, February 09, 2004
My name is Ken, I used to be an employee of Colorado Prime. This was my first outside sales position. I responded to a vague ad in the newspaper, advertising a job where you can make a tremendous amount of money selling in home food service. So I went to check it out. I met with a manager, who explained to me what the job entailed, and the potential of how much money I can make. However, I did not like the fact that the job paid no base salary, and was led to believe that I would at least receive pay for my 2 weeks training. This was the first scam. After training was over, I got my first appointment to sit in someone's home, during the evening hours, to do a 2.5 hr+ presentation on the food service. Now..... after the training class, I could hardly believe that anyone in their right mind would pass up this opportunity to join our foodservice. However, the presentation went off without a hitch, although I was terribly nervous.....and I got down to the close......this is when the customers started bucking, and not readily complying with the program. I immediately called my manager, who talks to people in a condescending manner when they don't readily hop on the bandwagon. Finally, he hammers out some sort of deal with them, and they agree to sign up. "Yeah, my first sale!", I thought. However, I find out 2 days later that the customer cancelled, and that they had to be called back to hammer out a better deal, which they accepted, however I got almost no commission off of that sale. Anyway, to make a long story short, I went out on numerous appointments, only sold 1/5 of them, out of that 1/5, only 1/2 of them had decent enough credit to actually get the service, and out of that 1/2, only 1/2 of those people actually decided to keep it. I couldn't understand what was happening. How could people cancel out on such a good service?.........Well, as I sat more appts., I started to figure it out....after going over my spiel with customers, and pretty much figuring out that they were not interested, I started to ask questions. Questions like "What makes you not want the svc?" and things of the like. This is when I became aware of the 20% interest on appliances, the food point pricing system(which caused the food to be terribly overpriced, unbeknownst to the customer), and the 70% markup on the appliances. My managers would have me believe that it was my fault that I couldn't sell these products. However, upon further investigation, I realized that people who HAVE the credit to signup on things like this, never would, because people with great credit GENERALLY have higher education levels, and can shoot your spiel down in the 1st 20 minutes of the presentation......The people that did sign up...usually had horrible credit. I was quickly becoming discouraged. There were a couple of other reps who sold out of my same office, that were making over $2500 per week, but I knew they had to be lying to people to get these sales, because the people I had been dealing with were not buying. The thing is, that the money the company pays in commission, is enough to make most people forget their standards and morals, all in the name of money; and although I was tempted to do so, I just couldn't. But this concludes my rant about Colorado Prime. I will say one thing, I was never dissatisfied with the quality of the food, especially the steak, it's just not worth $40/lb.
