Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
In November of 2001, a representative of Colorado Prime Foods came to our home. He brought with him samples of products that were sold by the company. After 3 hours of a sales pitch filled with untruths, my husband and I were pressured into signing a contract for food services that would include a huge discount off of food prices if we purchased the freezer that was of commercial grade and much better than any that was obtainable at regular stores.

We were then told that our food prices would be further discounted if we agreed to purchase a large screen TV that would eventually be free because of the huge discounts we would be getting. We were told of a bill that would be about $280.00 per month and we would be getting enough food to feed our family of 4 for 6 months.

When we questioned if this would be enough food for our family (because we didn't think that it would be) we were told that the representative had been calculating food like this for some time. Further, if the food did not last for the six months that was agreed to, Colorado Prime would make it good, because it would be the sales rep's fault for making a mistake. When our bill came, if was received in two seperate mailings.

The total per month was over 700.00! We in no way could afford this amount and called our sales rep immediately. He returned our call and told us that we would need to contact his boss, he then gave us the number. This person said that he would check into the totals and call back. That was february of 2002. So far he has yet to call back.

Our food was finally delivered and turned out that it was not the high quality food we had agreed to purchase. As a matter of fact, several of the items that we purchased were recalled and we were told to throw them out. The freezer was delivered prior to the food delivery and although it seems to be a good freezer was in no way worth the amount we were charged.

Keep in mind that all charges for these items were skipped during our initial sales pitch and when asked about the cost we were told that they would be free because of the offset with food discounts. When the large screen TV was delivered the delivery man made a big fuss about taking it upstairs and walked throughout the downstairs of our home looking for a better place to put it.

He eventually did take the TV upstairs. After the delivery my husband noticed that our white carpet was streaked with axle grease from the dolly used to bring in the TV. We contacted Colorado Prime about the mess and was told that we needed to contact the delivery company itself. After many attempts to call the delivery company resulted in unanswered messages we again attempted to call Colorado Prime.

No one there would return our phone calls. After several payments of over 770.00 per month we stopped paying the balance until a representative returned our calls. This did not happen and our account was turned over to a collection agency. We were harrassed by the collection agency for months.

Getting numerous phone calls daily at both of our places of work and at one point more than 15 calls in a 10 minute period while at home. We explained our situation the collection agency and stated that since our service had been less than satisfactory we would appreciate if the company would pick up the items at our house. It took a letter from our lawyer to get the harrassing phone calls to stop.

At this point our credit rating is ruined, we are still not able to get in contact with Colorado Prime, we've learned that the lending company is a company affiliated with the owners of Colorado Prime and that they have gone out of business. Our credit is ruined.

We thought we had no where to turn and have been beside ourselves worrying about this situation. We've continued to make attempts to contact Colorado Prime and as of today, no one from this company will either return our calls or admit that the company itself has closed its doors.
