I received this dash camera as a gift from my 2 children on or about February 20, 2016. On March 8, 2016 I registered the product online with Cobra. In a few months, the unit began turning off and on. I am a Ham Radio operator and worked in the phone installation business, so I know how to test a power cord and I thought it might be a power cord. Testing the power cord by feeding voltohmeter current into it, I could not get it to fail by wiggling the cord at its connection with the plug at either end and along its entire length. I called Cobra and they asked me to send it in to their warranty repair facility in Chicago which I did on 30 August 2016 on ORDER NUMBER 583433 per Doris, the Cobra rep with whom I spoke. It came back in a few days with a note that it was a bad power cord and enclosed was my unit and a new power cord. But that was not the fix at all.

I called again and told them and this time they wanted the receipt for purchase (even though it was registered with them weeks before). I called my son, who bought the unit, and he no longer had the receipt. It was a gift, I don't think it was reasonable to think that when one gets a gift he gets the receipt, because how much one pays for a gift is left unsaid among polite people. Nonetheless, the lady at Cobra said that they would not help me anymore without a receipt. The poor connection is obviously inside the unit and it goes on and off and I have to keep an eye on it to make sure the red power light is on. This unit or one appearing identical to this unit is for sale at Home Depot for an incredible $149.95 and at $59.95 at Overstock.com.

Cobra is making a horrendous fortune on this unit because it is made in China and one can buy very good new dash cams on eBay starting at about $9.00. Some come from China, others are brought in from China and shipped out from the USA. I bought one for $12 and it has both forward and backward looking lenses and is trouble free for about 9 months now. I have no paperwork from Cobra other than the letter I sent in to them with the defective unit. When the unit came back, the note that said it was a bad cord with a tiny scrap of paper with an inaccurate diagnosis and I scrapped it. I hope this helps me and other people get Cobra to be more responsible for the stuff they sell.
