I purchased a used vehicle and decided that obtaining an extended warranty coverage would be a good idea. I purchased the "preferred" automobile warranty coverage through CNA National. This was offered to me via the dealership where I purchased my car. The extended plans were only through CNA National. They offered me several warranty plans through CNA National. I opted to purchase the best plan CNA National offered. This plan cost me over $2,000.00 for 50,000 or 4 years. I own an American branded car.

CNA National covered minor items that needed to be replaced such as a light switch that stopped illuminating at night. I did however, have to pay a $100.00 deductible before they would pay the remaining balance of the covered part. The remaining balance was small money.

Later that year, my car started blowing cold air and the dealership diagnosed a bad heater core. They spoke with CNA and was told this was not a covered item. I immediately reviewed my policy and it displayed "heater core" was a covered item - listed under the "Air Conditional - HVAC" section of the policy. I immediately called CNA to argue this.

I was informed that if a heater core is "plugged" then this part is not covered. Reviewing the deceptive policy writing, there is a wording at the top of the policy, in small grayed out writing that essentially rules out coverage for just about any item listed in the "covered" section.

They will only cover an item if its due to a "mechanical defect". This means that a plugged heater core isn't covered.

Obviously, something in my car has a "mechanical defect" if the core is plugged.

I am writing this because I was under the impression at the time of this warranty purchase that I would have "zero issues" when failures in my car would occur.

CNA National will argue over every claim that exceeds $500.00. They will challenge every claim through the dealership by sending out representatives who will make their own judgment/decisions of the claim, regardless of what a certificated dealership mechanic diagnosed the issue as.

I would HIGHLY recommend AGAINST purchasing any policy through CNA National. The policies are not cheap and the coverage is subpar to say the least. I would follow by saying the coverage is a scam altogether.
