If you can buy from somewhere else, DO IT! RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK!!! They crashed one of our cars on the lot, then sold us another that had a RODENT NEST under the hood, LEAKING OIL, electrical problems, etc... I called to make an appointment to get it checked, and they told me it would take at least 10 days to get it in there!!! They truck is less than 2 weeks old (conveniently broke down after the 7 day period) and they expect me to wait that long for things that should have been dealt with before it was put up for sale. This leads me to believe THEY DID NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE BEFORE RESELLING IT!!!!

The vehicle also has this blackish powdery substance all over under the hood. Don't bother calling the 800 number, they're just a feel good hotline that takes a memo and sends it to the same people who are causing the problems. So they finally take the truck in to get repaired and they don't bother to call me and update me, nor provide me a loaner vehicle... RUN AWAY AND DO NOT BUY FROM HERE!!! After the sale you are just a piece of trash to them

What about your own independent inspection?

I am a consumer, just like you.  I'm not affliated with any dealership. I wouldn't trust any inspection at any auto dealer. It's self-serving at best and at worst, an example of a checklist mentality that doesn't address actual inspection needs/requirements. That checklist simply says the item was checked, not that it is actually working to any standard at all. The best way to find the current condition of the vehicle is to have an inspection report completed by an independent third party.

Even if you get that checklist from a dealership, get the third party inspection. Dollars to donuts that there will be something on the independent report different from the dealership report. Protect yourself. Remember, the dealership is looking out for their own interests at all times and you need to look out for your own.

You can then use the third party report to negotiate with the dealer (in most cases).  I don't think Carmax will cooperate as they are a flat price type dealer. In that case, just walk away if the report comes back with something you don't like or can't accept.
