Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I contracted to move a vehicle from California to South Carolina from BT Auto Transport. BT brokered the order to Grizzly Auto Transport...a BIG problem with them btw!!!

The agreed upon price was $850, with a $200 deposit by way of credit card. No problem right? WRONG! :) This story gets twisted as you go along...would turn this into a mini-series, but it's worth the read if you want a warning

Nobody called to confirm by pickup, but when I called to inquire they THEN gave me the name of the company they brokered it to...Grizzly Auto Sales/Transport. Their address is 160 Jensen Street in Reno, NV. Their phone number is 775-772-1117. Dave is the driver (maybe the only one?!!?), and his wife is possibly the only other employee (?). Anyway...

I was told by BT Auto Transport my car would "probably" get to me a day later than anticipated due to the holiday. No problem, but I HAD TO INQUIRE to even get the info. I was told Friday evening or Saturday am at the latest by BT Auto, but the driver would call to give me a "heads up" so I could plan accordingly. She assured me I wouldn't have to take delivery late Friday evening if it was dark, so to look over the car in daylight before signing off on it.

Thursday passed, so I was confident a Friday delivery would be out of the question. When Friday noon came and passed, a Saturday delivery was now fading into the distance, so I called the driver of the truck, Dave. THAT is where the problems started to mount!

Dave said his truck was broke down for 3 days and such and began cussing profusely. I called Grizzly office to find out where he was broken down and when could I possibly expect my car. Check this out...SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT STATE HE WAS IN?!?!? HELLO?!?! I knew Saturday was out of the question and she kind of blew me off and told me simply, "Sometime next week". THAT'S IT?!?!? Ok...I would wait. :)

Dave left me a voice mail late Friday evening now saying he would roll in Sunday. Well...1st of all I wasn't even going to be in town (this was the 1st mention of Sunday)...his dispatcher (wife) had told me earlier in the day it would be "sometime next week". I called him back, but got his answering machine...I simply said I wouldn't even be in town, and was told anyway that he wouldn't be here till sometime next week (July 14th week).

I called Dave on Saturday to try to speak directly to him, and NOW it starts to unfold~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He answered the phone, "Yea...what do you want?" I said, "Dave I got your message of course, but again...I won't even be in town on Sunday and your dispatch indicated next week on top of that". He said, "Look...I'm trying to get some blank-a-dee-blank sleep, and neither will I!!!" The phone went dead__________

I thought, this isn't how you end a phone converstation so I called him right back...I told him I didn't know if we got disconnected or what happened. He said, "She (his dispatcher) doesn't know blank!@#@#$#$# and he hung up!

I emailed BT Auto...left emails, etc letting them know there's a loose cannon out there.

On Monday late morning JUly 14th I get a call from Dave... (again...I have NO IDEA when/if my car will get to me right?...I was hung up on simply told that he wouldn't be here Sunday either after I told him I wasn't going to be in town).

Dave is now asking which exit to get off on to get to me. He asked if there were any trees on the road because my car was on top, but went on to say..."I don't care...it aint my car". I then told him to meet me at a gas station. I wanted to be in a public place in the event this guy goes "postal" with me.

He went on to say..."Oh...you know there's an extra $100 due don't you?" I said...this is the 1st mention and the agreement was for $650...not $750. HE WENT BALLISTIC!!!!!!!!!!!! You're gettin' me my $750 #$#@#@!$#$ dollars or you aint gettin' your car!!! ARE YOU GONNA GIVE ME $750$#$#$*&...yes or no?!?!!?"

I "tried" to tell him I would call him back ( I was going to call BT to brief them to the scenario as it unfolded). I left my office to be able to do so, but the driver called my office cussing in a big way to other employees inquiring about where I was and talking about my piece of #@$#$*#&$ car he had on his #$#*$#&$* truck, etc...you get the drift.

BT told me..."Kevin...give the driver the extra $100 and I'll credit your card back. Let's just get your car unloaded and I'll take care of you.

I went to the bank to get the "extra" $100...a total of $750. The driver called me on my cell saying, "YOU GOT MY F_________ $$$?!?! I said, "Yes".

5 minutes later he pulls PAST the gas station and I see him get out of sight...I don't know where he's headed...to my house?! He calls me back in 3 minutes and asks if I know where he's at. I told him no, and he said I'm just past the gas station in the middle of the road...the middle land people use for turning, etc... AGAIN, he asks about the $100.

Check this out...my car was NOT on top, but on the bottom...at the very back, with the planks already laid down on the road. Dave is at my auto with his clip board and when I approached him he asked about the money. I said, "I've got it right here for you...let's unload it so I can do a walk around inspection". Protocol right? He said, "That aint the way it works pal...you aint gettin' your car". I repeated myself and he said "NO", and began to put his clipboard away. I shook my head in disbelief and turned to walk back to my other vehicle and I began to call BT Auto. By the way...I had been speaking with the OWNER each time, Billy Turner.

Interesting part here..........

As I'm on the phone talking to Billy telling him that Dave is not giving me my car, Dave had run just ahead of me by 10-12 feet and squatted down a bit in front of me while I'm walking and talking and snapped a photo of me saying, "HAHA...this is proof that I was here!!!".

Off he drove with my car. Hey...there are NUMEROUS calls/things that took place after this, but here's what happened...

I got a phone message from Billy at BT...he has my cell, but chose to leave me a message instead (afraid of more confrontation?). His message at the office was this, "Kevin...Grizzly has dropped off your car in Augusta, Georgia. You'll need to call them and get the details".

The car being "impounded" at the wrecker company was a $185 fee and $15 each day. They were NOT releasing the car (understandably) to me till Grizzly sent them confirmation that they had been paid. I was going to get my car and called them, but the wrecker company said, "Dont come now...BT lied...they told Grizzly they sent the money, but later called to ask WHERE to send the money, and we aren't releasing the car till Grizzly let's us know they've been paid". There were MANY details involved here, but what transpired finally is this...

I drove to Georgia (not South Carolina) to get my car, &I paid storage for 3 days (wasn't even notified as to the whereabouts of my car till a day after they dropped it off!?!?!?!?), and paid the $185 to the wrecker company.

Billy Turner has not even credited my credit card back the $100 he initially said he would when he told me to get the $100 to pay the driver...he's returned no phone call I've placed to him since the other day, and I've got no response to my last email I sent him earlier this morning.

BT got their money...Grizzly got theirs.

There are MANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNY lessons to be learned. I've moved several cars in the last 14 months, and this has been a nightmare to say the least.

Suggestions PRIOR to moving a vehicle...

1. Have the company fax any bill of lading to you...it will give you their ICC # and disclosure of pertinent info about them. PS...GRIZZLY DOESN'T HAVE ONE!?!? They're not even "legal"? They're a "run by the seat of your pants" company it seems.

2. Get a faxed copy of their certificate of insurance with deductables.

I could go on and on...a phone call could better explain some of this if you're that concerned. Email me with your phone number if you're interested and I'd be GLAD to fill you in with other details.

You responded to my complaint with your company, however MUCH of what you noted is not accurate. My comments to your comments are preceeded by a series of .......'s. Your comments begin at the left margin. Dave contacted Mr. Keene on Friday night to let him know the delivery date would now be Sunday, July 13th. According to Dave, ...........WHOOOOOOOOOOOA now Billy...1st of all, you're believin' what Dave the foul mouth, beligerant driver is now saying?!?! Didn't he hang up on YOU TOO? Dave did NOT speak to me on Friday telling me about that...he left a MESSAGE on my phone if you'll recall (please refer to the facts initially posted Mr. Bill). When I called him back to tell him I wouldn't even be in town (it was the courteous thing to do instead of just not being home right?), after I told him I wouldn't be in town, HE HUNG UP ON ME TWO TIMES CUSSING ME ALL THE WHILE!!! (see previous post). Dave THEN went on to say very angrily, "Well I'm not gonna be there either!!!"...that was the LAST I HEARD FROM HIM TILL AN HOUR BEFORE HE WANTED TO DELIVER MY CAR ON MONDAY!!! In other words, I didn't have a clue IF, or WHEN my car would get here. when he reached Mr. Keene on Sunday, .............WHOAAAAAAAAAA again Bill...remember...I wasn't HOME on Sunday! How in the WORLD could Dave have contacted me?!?! Hello?!?!?! He did NOT reach me on Sunday, as I was out of town. Mr. Keene said he would not take delivery of the vehicle on Sunday, he thought he would just take a day off. .................Pardon me?!?!?! That was never said, and IF Dave told you that, he lied, and if you beLIEVED him when he told you that...SHAME ON YOU To keep from making the other vehicles Dave was transporting any later, Dave traveled approximately 500 miles to make deliveries and then come back to Mr. Keene. He informed Mr. Keene that this would be the case, and told him there would be an additional charge of $100. .....................Hold on now...Dave called me Monday late morning reviewing where to deliver, and indicating he'd be by shortly (I didn't have a clue WHERE or WHEN my car would come...(last communication was when I was hung up on) and then he said, "Oh by the way...you know there's an extra $100 don't you?" This is the 1st mention at all, and when I told him know I didn't, he said, "Well you gonna have my ##$*&#*()@#&$* money or not? If you'll look at my initial report I noted that I TRIED to tell him I would call him back. I had intention to call YOU to inquire about this "extra" $100, yet he INSISTED I tell him NOW that he was gettin' his money, etc... HE WENT BALLISTIC over the phone, cussing up a storm using all sorts of foul language, and AGAIN hung up on me. I left my office to "quietly" call you and head towards my home to receive my car, and Dave called my OFFICE cussing profusely to my boss and another employee about my #$#$*#&*(#$ piece of _________ car he had. Oh get this...the "extra" $100 he said was due to the fact my car was "bigger than others and modified with headers and difficult to get on/off the truck". HA...I found out that DAVE DID NOT EVEN LOAD MY CAR IN CALIFORNIA WHEN IT LEFT...THE COUSIN OF THE PREVIOUS OWNER DROVE THE CAR ON TO THE CARRIER, AND DAVE DID NOT EVEN LOAD IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mr. Keene did not want to pay the additional fee, but still refused to accept delivery of the vehicle. ................WHOAAAAAAAAAAAaa again...refuse to take delivery?!?!?! WHERE in the world are you comin' up with this Billy? What kind of spin are you trying to put on all of this? When I got you on the phone, you said (check your response) to go get the extra $100 to pay him and you'd compensate me..."Let's just get your car unloaded Kevin". Hey...I went to the bank...got the "extra" $100 to get to Dave (now a total of $750, $100 more than our "contract" states), and HAD THE MONEY TO GIVE TO DAVE! Oh...and you STILL have not even credited my card back that $100, and that's been OVER A WEEK AGO!!! It's now 2:20 am, July 26, 2003!!! He contacted BT Auto Transport on Monday morning and spoke with myself, I then told him to solve this problem, I would pay the additional $100. We agreed that Mr. Keene would go to the bank, get the extra money and I would credit back $100 to his credit card. I thought the problem was solved at this point. ...........Ok...we "AGREED"? Where's my $100 for this portion? I kept MY end of the bargain in getting him the money...you don't keep your word? A few minutes later, Dave called me and told me Mr. Keene was refusing to pay ................THAT my friend is a bold face lie. WHY tell me...just WHY would I go to the bank...get the "extra" $100 and then refuse to pay him?!?!?! My bank records will indicate just when the $100 was withdrawn...you think I was going to wave it in his face and say, "See I got it but you aint getting it!" Hello!?!?! and he did not know what to do. He was afraid Mr. Keene would say that he never showed up to deliver the vehicle so he took a picture of Mr. Keene with the transporter in the background, and told Mr. Keene if he was unable to pay him, he would have to carry the vehicle back to California with him. ................Give me a break Billy. How could I deny Dave coming with my vehicle? I WAS TALKING TO YOU THE BROKER TELLING YOU ALL ALONG HOW THIS WAS UNFOLDING!!! I TOLD YOU, "I see my car right here, but he won't let me inspect the car so I can get the vehicle"...we were on the phone conversing while Dave was in the background. You know the character of this fellow by now, and you spoke with me several times already this morning...are you believing that load of trash? By the way...you've got your facts messed up again...Dave told me beFORE he took my picture that he's taking the car back to California. After he REFUSED TO LET ME LOOK OVER MY CAR, he told me he was not giving me my car. Remember...he would NOT allow me to do a "walk around" inspection of the car until he had his money telling me, "That aint the way it works pal". I was in the parking lot talking with a police officer in his patrol car and had Dave on my speaker phone allowing the officer to listen to the conversation. I was hoping the officer could have stayed to possibly intervene in the event Dave got physically hostile with me. Again...that's why I elected to meet at a public place to unload and not my home. I knew if the vehicle was transported all the way back to California, it would be about a $1900 charge. I then called Dave and asked him if he could find a place to put the vehicle in storage until this matter could be resolved. .................Hey...like there's no storage in Columbia, South Carolina?!?! Hello?!?! Columbia is the CAPITAL of our state...you mean he had to drive to the next STATE to locate a place to store the car? You mean he was going to make all of this "convenient" for all of us? You think he was trying to "acccomodate" me? How about, "I'll fix this guy who thinks he's gettin' his car!!!" Better describe it all? We were then in contact with Mr. Keene and let him know that the vehicle would be put in storage, ......not until the next DAY was I notified, and by way of a message left with our secretary...I've still got the memo on my desk. what the wrecker fee and inside storage fee were going to be, and the form of payment that would be required to receive his vehicle. He then told Jamie at BT Auto Transport that this arrangement would be fine, ...... wrong again Billy. Jamie did NOT tell you that, because I didn't tell her that, unless she has lied to you. In fact, you left me a message at the office (see my previous post) and knew very well my cell number...we spoke NUMEROUS times, yet I feel you didn't want the confrontation of telling me. What I told Jamie was, "I take issue with that...please have Billy to call me". She said, "Well I'm the office manager". I said, "Fine...but have Billy to call me, because I take issue with having to pay the storage". She said ok, but that's the way it is. And guess what...you STILL haven't called me back. You haven't refunded my CARD...haven't called me BACK, and never fulfilled your contract in delivering my car to ME, nor for the agreed upon price. that he knew the town of Agusta and that he had lived there in the past. We then contacted Dave, got all the information where the vehicle could be picked up, and contacted Mr. Keene again with this information. The extra charges incurred were due to Mr. Keene's own actions. .......Billy...Dave would NOT allow me to inspect my car, and HE chose to drive off with it. I wish I could have done something to head off these problems, ........probably wasn't possible, yet you COULD have (and still can?) pay me the $305 that was BEYOND our contract amount that I had to pay. You COULD, but you WON'T. You haven't even taken it upon yourself or in behalf of your company as a good gesture to even TRY to compensate me. I've worked in an industry that delivered home goods for over 10 years, and there were times we had to "eat" the delivery charges! Sometimes it was our fault, yet other times it was not, yet there are things that sometimes must needs be done to satisfy a customer, and show good faith...neither of which you've made an effort to do. and as it states on our website, I will personally do everything within my power to see that the customer is satisfied. I feel that I did so in this matter. ........Again, I've got a copy of your email to me in which you said, (Sherri actually sent it to me)... "I apologize. I am terribly sorry. We were not notified of the problems. This is the first I have heard. The driver is responsible for all phone calls after he has the info. Unless we hear from you or them, we assume (I do know what that makes me) everything is on schedule. I can not do anything before Monday. At this point I only hope you have your car by then. Sheri" That email came to me Saturday, 7/12/03 at 7:41pm I would think you were made aware on Monday were you not? Ok..."things" weren't going as planned obviously, so why didn't you monitor the situation more carefully? When things got REAL BAD, weren't you even thinking to yourself, "Man...I'm gonna have to eat some of these "extra" fees to make sure Kevin knows BT Auto will do "everything in their power" to satisfy a customer"? We transport most of the vehicles booked with us on our own trucks, but occasionally we do have to go outside the company. When this occurs, any company requesting to transport for us is checked out. ...........I'm sure you have some checks and balances, but for those that might stumble across these posts and is careful enough to discern the truth in all this I'll let all of us know (and remind you!) that you said of Grizzly, "Well we sure won't be using them again." They have to provide us with a number of items to even be considered, including their MC (federal authority) number and certificate of insurance. Grizzly's federal authority number is MC-424088, and we do have insurance on record for them. If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to call our office at 888-772-0249. .........is that an invitation to ME, or someone who wants to get it straight from the horses mouth instead of reading these posts, because if it is for ME to call you...simply read back through all of this to remind yourself that it was ME that left you a message to call me and never did?!?

On June 23rd, Mr. Keene did contact BT auto Transport to transport his vehicle from California to South Carolina. The agreed upon price was $850, we never disputed that. We dispatched this vehicle out to Grezzly Auto Sales & Transport on July 1st, the expected pick up date was the evening of July 2nd or the morning of July 3rd. Expected delivery of this vehicle was July 10th or July 11th. At the time the truck was dispatched Dana, of BT Auto Transport, called Mr. Demello (the contact at the origin) and Mr. Keene and told them both the expected pick up date. In transit, Dave, from Grizzly, had to have some tires changed on his transporter. When the shop put these tires on, they failed to tighten the lug nuts properly, and damage occurred to the axle of the transporter. Dave then had to have this repaired; this is an unforeseen problem that sometimes occurs due to the nature of this business. Dave spoke with Mr. Keene, and made him aware of the delay. Mr. Keene then called our office and we confirmed that the delivery time would have to be pushed back. We told Mr. Keene that someone would be in contact with him as soon as we knew that the driver was back on the road. We also provided Mr. Keene with Dave's cell phone number and the number of Dave's dispatcher. Dave contacted Mr. Keene on Friday night to let him know the delivery date would now be Sunday, July 13th. According to Dave, when he reached Mr. Keene on Sunday, Mr. Keene said he would not take delivery of the vehicle on Sunday, he thought he would just take a day off. To keep from making the other vehicles Dave was transporting any later, Dave traveled approximately 500 miles to make deliveries and then come back to Mr. Keene. He informed Mr. Keene that this would be the case, and told him there would be an additional charge of $100. Mr. Keene did not want to pay the additional fee, but still refused to accept delivery of the vehicle. A few minutes later, Dave called me and told me Mr. Keene was refusing to pay, and he did not know what to do. He was afraid Mr. Keene would say that he never showed up to deliver the vehicle so he took a picture of Mr. Keene with the transporter in the background, and told Mr. Keene if he was unable to pay him, he would have to carry the vehicle back to California with him. I knew if the vehicle was transported all the way back to California, it would be about a $1900 charge. I then called Dave and asked him if he could find a place to put the vehicle in storage until this matter could be resolved. We were then in contact with Mr. Keene and let him know that the vehicle would be put in storage, what the wrecker fee and inside storage fee were going to be, and the form of payment that would be required to receive his vehicle. He then told Jamie at BT Auto Transport that this arrangement would be fine, that he knew the town of Agusta and that he had lived there in the past. We then contacted Dave, got all the information where the vehicle could be picked up, and contacted Mr. Keene again with this information. The extra charges incurred were due to Mr. Keene's own actions. I wish I could have done something to head off these problems, and as it states on our website, I will personally do everything within my power to see that the customer is satisfied. I feel that I did so in this matter. We transport most of the vehicles booked with us on our own trucks, but occasionally we do have to go outside the company. When this occurs, any company requesting to transport for us is checked out. They have to provide us with a number of items to even be considered, including their MC (federal authority) number and certificate of insurance. Grizzly's federal authority number is MC-424088, and we do have insurance on record for them. Our quality control is second to none, we even go as far as to put my own personal vehicles on transporters who are unaware. This is to test their pick up times, delivery times and inspect the vehicle on delivery to make sure our customers are receiving the very best of service. This is one of the reasons BT Auto Transport has very few complaints. If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to call our office at 888-772-0249.
