I want to report...I have continued to purchase premium gas from the Lisle Amoco (Craig's) and I have NOT had a problem since. And, they have been kind. Furthermore, I have been giving their service department business and I find them to be honest and reliable and more. They have even done a few things for me for free. I feel bad I ever had my original issue with their gas and wrote the complaint to begin with. But, this web site does NOT allow you to take down the original complaint. Lesson learned - give people a second chance before posting something online.

Your original description (knocks, pings, etc...) is a textbook description of insufficient octane. If your car was broken, it wouldn't have fixed itself on your next tank of gas. That's one reason that you got the kind of response from the oil co. that you did. Another reason is very likely that you were not the only one to report the problem.
How long was it between the time you filled up and the time they checked? A busy station can turn over a load of fuel in a few days. While it's good that they're still checking for contamination (water or something else), if the cause really was a load of bad gas, it would be long gone by the time they checked.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. If your car went back to running normally, it's unlikely that any damage was done. I've had the same thing happen a few times. As long as you take it easy on the engine when it knocks, you won't break anything.

I need to give BP credit. I filed a complaint directly with them and they responding - BIG TIME. They had an internal audit done immediately - literally, a BP person went to the station I had an issue with and made tests. Now that's accountability. They found nothing wrong. The owner of the station personally called me to go over things. It meant a lot. And, they on their own - called the state to make sure nothing was wrong. Yikes, I can't believe they called the State in. I'm truly impressed. I'm waiting for test results now. I feel a little sheepish - because, these guys went all out and I'm now scratching my head wondering what was wrong with my car...that is now completely fine. I will keep you posted on what the State finds - if anything.
