Complaint Review: BLM Companies LLC - Washington Utah

I am caretaker, caregiver, have power of attorney and am inheritor for my aunt. She was admitted to a nursing home on April 30 2018. Per reverse mortgage guidelines, NOVAD considers the house unoccupied after six months. That would be September 30, 2018.

On July 6 2018 my attorney offered the deed on lieu explaining that she probably will not return home. I have continued to take care of the premises and paid all bills. We received no reply.

On the contrary, on July 27 agents from BLM arrived with instructions to “secure” the house. I was able to convince them that I am in the process of liquidating the contents and need at least until the end of August and the house is being maintained by me. I really have until September 30 per the reverse mortgage contract. I was not able to reach anyone at NOVAD and it took my attorney two days to reach them. She spoke to xxxxxx at NOVAD, was assigned case #xxxxxx with a promise of a call back, and I was advised to proceed as I had planned.

On August 1 2018 BLM agents arrived again and after explaining the situation again via a phone conversation with Spencer at their office, I was again given the OK to proceed. I made it clear to them that I have an on-line auction running from August 15 to 24, with pickup date of the 25th. I gave them a tour of the house to prove that it is being maintained and gave them my phone number and asked them to secure the back door, should they ever have to come again, so that I can remove contents via the front door.

On August 24 2018, while I was at a doctor’s office, the BLM agents came again, this time “ secured” the house; along with that they tore down the bathroom curtains and plastered their three “ No Trespassing “ signs in the window, now making it obvious that it is uninhabited and inviting to criminals. While they were at it, they helped themselves to the most expensive jewelry, plus photographic equipment, worth $ 3630.00, all laid out for auction buyers to pick up their purchases the next day.   

Panic phone calls to BLM and NOVAD proved impossible and frustrating. I spent three hours trying to speak to someone with authority and was repeatedly disconnected or switched to voicemails, which promised that someone would call back within one business day. That was on a Friday afternoon and buyers were coming on Saturday. No one at the phones could help me and no supervisors were available all that time at either place. Needless to say, no supervisor returned any promised calls, ever.  

Simultaneously my attorney, on vacation, attempted to assist me and only received a case number and a promise of a call back, again, never received one.

Furthermore, the BLM agents had placed a sign on my personal automobile, threatening to have it towed within 24 hours. Again, I have every right to park my properly registered and licensed automobile on my aunt’s property, having proper permission by her.

It boils down to three separate issues:

One is that NOVAD is issuing an order to secure the premises prematurely, is insensitive to requests for extension, is not reachable and hides behind voicemails and does not return calls as promised.

Second, that BLM, or whoever their subcontractors or agents are, are proceeding despite promising to allow extra time, then make the home look really look abandoned; then no one with authority is reachable and promised phone calls are not returned.

Third, BLM or the agents they send are thieves, by going through belongings and helping themselves to valuables. Internet research bears this out again and again, as numerous similar reviews are posted.

It shows gross misconduct on the part of all concerned and lack of supervision by HUD.
