I deposited $500 prior to taking a short weekend trip.  The hotel I stayed at charged my debit card twice and a "pending" status was placed on both the charges by the bank.

The hotel sent a correction fax to the bank and I called first thing on Monday and let the supervisor at my local bank in Jupiter know about the problem.  No one would reverse the extra debit, no one at the bank would call the hotel to verify for 3 days.  Other banks would have dropped the erroneous charge prior to 3 days time but BankAtlantic would not nor would they correct the account based on the fax they received from the hotel.

Finally, I threw a fit and the manager in Jupiter got on the phone with the hotel and corrected the extra fee - then charged me $110.00 in overdraft fees!!!  The catch - there are no items that were presented that could not be paid!!  I have a print out of my account.

There was $547 in the bank prior to my weekend trip.  I spent $439 including the hotel charges.  The print out from my online banking does not show any items that could not be paid.  When the bank "corrected" the error they left me with $2.17 in my account.

I have called the corporate office in Ft Lauderdale and, so far, they are standing behind their fraudulent charges.

I have been watching this bank very closely.  Check the online system prior to the weekend, during the weekend, and after the weekend and make sure you keep your check/debit log.  BankAtlantic messes around with the order in which transactions are received.  You can look online during the weekend and the debits will be in one order.  BankAtlantic normally pends transactions up to THREE days after the weekend then re-posts the debits in a different order.  By messing with the posts they can charge overdraft fees on more items.  They even change the order that the credits come in.

LET THE BANKER BEWARE!!  I encourage everyone to print out their online account information each weekend and then immediately after the weekend when BankAtlantic finally decides to stop pending the debits and actually posts them.
