The first thing to say is that the reason why Bank of America joined forces and took over Fleet is b/c the banks have a deadline with borrowing from the Fed Gov. If they can't make the time to do what they have to thats why theres all these mergers. Its called greed. They either have it or they don't. I found this out from a friend who is a franchise of a pizza company that I work for. Its just like say the airlines and that the companies rent since the Fed Gov owns the planes. This is what happens. Bank of America charges fees regardless of whether the payment is on time. I almost joined them but when I see charges I have a problem. I used to do atms so I seen what all the banks are like. Bnak of America actually agreed to get rid of the late fee that actually wasn't late but since they have 3pm est. then I could see if the bank was closing different story. I called up Bank of America to look over my records since I donate money to a charity with my vending and couldn't find what I wanted so they had to mail out and what do you know $3. charge copy fee per paper. How rude? Charge me for copies. I'm never using them again not b/c of the people that work for the bank the bank itself.

To respond accordingly, I was elecronically transferring througout the month. I wasn't aware of the fees however, I don't care for how they approach me regarding it. 1) Write me a letter and state your policy, 2) Give me several suggesting options to maintain or change my account. Do not send me a notice telling me what you are going to do. The ATM fees were double and triple charges for one transaction. Example...I went to Wachovia and took out $20.00 they charged me $2.00 for their service and I aware that BOA will charge me $1.50. However, BOA was charging me $1.50 2 or 3 times for the $20.00 transaction. I could see these charges on my account. That is wrong and I suppose goes against their policy. And as I said, I ignored it. Feel free to comment again. AJ

I went through the same conversion. I thought that Fleet was a pretty crappy bank, and that BoA is much improved in regards to consumer banking. That being said, it doesn't take much to be much improved over Fleet. Regarding your savings transfers and the $3 fee, I am willing to bet that you were not doing the transfer with a teller, but rather electronically, in some fashion. Under federal regulations, you are only permitted 3 of these during a statement period, and if you consistently go over that number, the bank is required to take some action. That isn't anything unique to BoA, my credit union does it. ATM surcharges? Everyone does it, it has become a fact of life. You may find a smaller institution, (again a credit union usually) who doesn't surcharge, and larger banks will refund surcharges if you're a bazillionaire, but you should just get used to paying that buck and a half.

With the frequent mergers of the last few decades I found my checking account changed hands too often. Eventually ended up closing my account with Fleet (which merged with Bank of Boston which merged with BOA ... you get the picture) and opened a new account with a smaller regional bank. And have been very happy with their service for over 6 years. Anyway, addressing problem 4 and 5, if I remember the banking regulations correctly, depending upon the account, an account holder is allowed to make any number of deposits within a 30 day period but is restricted to a certain number of withdrawls per 30 day period. You would have had that issue with any bank that you had your account with. I suppose there may be some allowance made for combining two different systems together during a merger but it seems you had to put up with a larger than usually number of problems.
