Avtech Direct contacts my current employer who is an educational institution thru emails. They usually give this ad about a remarkable sale that has a deadline to call in and place an order and they will hold the system for you without any obligation to you to buy.

Once you contact them they tell you that the deadline is maybe 9:00 pm that same night and in order to get the deal you have to call them back no later than the time they gave you. They give you a line of -- "How to qualify"

(1) You must be Avtech Customer

(2) All desktop computers will be available on a first come first serve basis.

(3) You must call 1-800-795-8466 by 5 P.M. (whatever date given as deadline).

(4) You are not obligated in any way. (5) 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed.

I originally told the so called customer service rep. that I spoke to on the phone that I was purchasing the computer for my children that had gone on vacation to stay with my mom for the summer. He guaranteed me that the computer would be built and shipped out as soon as possible. I checked back in a few days to see what was taking so long and I was told that it was being built. Once that was confirmed the computer was shipped out in about 10 days to my mothers address.

My mother is not very computer literate and does not know much about the ins and outs of computers. After she received the computer and used it maybe 3 or 4 times it only sat there and collected dust. She tried to install a printer and that is when she really started to have problems. The computer shut down and never came back on. My mother thought that she had done something wrong. Not realizing that the computer was only defective from the start.

I now have the computer back in my possession and will have it checked out by a certified technician to see if it can be fixed. The only reason why we had not been able to contact them back was the invoice to the computer was misplaced right after the computer was purchased.

I do realize that I have been ripped off and would like to see something done to correct this. We spent over $600 for this paperweight. I don't know about for someone else, but for me, that is a lot of money. That is not fair to do that to people. They should be punished for their corruptive actions.
