AvTech SUCKS! Don't do it!

And if you see ANY GOOD E-MAILS ABOUT THIS COMPANY, it's only because the scammers are typing them theirselves.

I received the e-mail like everybody else advertising new laptop computers for little or nothing. "Staff Bulletin" was in the subject line. (Mind you I work in an automotive design office.) The prices sounded too unbelievable, so I decided to ask a round a little bit. None of my co-workers received this e-mail. That was a little suspicious so I decided to look up the company on the net.

I got the name, number, and location of an AvTech Headquarters in California and inquired about this offer they e-mailed me. I told them I wanted to see if it was legit. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT LEGIT! This company told me that they were not the "AvTech" that I was looking for and that they have hear about this scam quite often. They get many calls about unreceived items and so forth that they're not even associated with. They then recommended me not to order anything based on the e-mail I received.

Of course, I was disgusted and called the 800 318-1388 number that was on the e-mail to see what would happen. A scruffy voiced young lady answered. The backgound was not business like at all. It was very loud. She put me on hold and when she came back to the phone it was quiet (I guess she told the other scammers to SHUT UP, it was a sucker on the phone).

I told her I wanted to purchase a computer and that I had received the e-mail offer. I asked about payment (ie installments, cash, check,...) She told me they ONLY ACCEPTED CHEDIT CARDS and that if I didn't have to available credit on my card, that THEY COULD SHIP THE ITEMS AND POST DATE MY CARD.

I knew something was fishy so I told her I'll think about it and call back later. But if she could please mail me some brochure info on AvTech and their products. This young lady then SAID THE MOST RIDICULOUS THING I'VE EVER HEARD. She said that the gentleman that has all the brochures is out of town and he won't be back until next month... and if I could just give her my address and SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER or credit card number, they'll get those brochures mailed out to me. Of course she said the card wouldn't be billed until the transaction was final--but the computers are going fast.

Bottom Line---THESE CATS NEED AN *SSSSSS WHOOOOOOPIN!

People, please don't believe the hype. They didn't even ask about the so called qualification I was supposed to have in order to qualify (ya know, you had to be a school staff member...nonprofit...) They were SO CONCERNED ABOUT GETTING MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then its a (you fill in the blank).
