I was hired as a subcontractor by Alcides Pardo to do granite countertops in a commercial builing in St Pete. I moved from Michigan to work with Alcides. The job was immediately a disaster and soon was unable to get ahold of him. I would call and text asking to talk in person I needed answers on getting paid and what the next jobsite was. I would get auto texts for every response saying "I'm in a meeting". I was told by other contractors he was known for not paying his workers and it wasnt unusual for former employees to show up at the shop wanting to fight him. I was told by his onsite supervisor that I would get paid and if I just left as is I wouldnt get paid for anything.
I finished the units i started hoping what I heard was wrong. Last friday April 29th i was told i was going to get paid today May 6th. Last night he called me at 10 at night to tell me to come in and to bring my invoices. I went to his shop today with my invoices he was sitting there. Shuffled through his paperwork and said ok what do I owe you. An employee came in the office and asked for him to come to the back of the shop. Alcides said he would be back in 5-10 mins. 30 mins later the shop door opened and Alcides was in with 2 police officers. I was extremely confused. The officers said have you been threatening to kill anyone? I was like WHAT???? no we were just doing my invoices.
They said Alcides called and said i was threatening people. Then it hit me he wasnt going to pay me and was using the courts to attempt to not pay me. All contractors know after everything you dont make any money and it can take forever. The cops read all of my texts asking for answers when i was getting paid and said Im sorry they completely agree it wrong but unfortunately its a civil matter now. I havent got paid a dime. I moved here paid for a hotel for over 5 weeks paid my helpers/tools/material. Im out soooo much money and he just took my money without a care in the world. I dont get how anything good ever happens to people like this. Good things happen to bad people and it isnt right...
