I feel that I have been ripped off. I had this Air Condition Co. come to my house to check my AC.I thought they would give the AC a complete check up but they only added freon. That's another thing. They said they added 3 pounds. I cannot believe that as the AC was running cool, just not as cool as I thought it should.I don't know how much freon this 3 ton unit holds but 3 pounds seems like a lot.

Yeah, they difinately RIPPED you off. I work in customer service for a very REPUTABLE HVAC company in Arizona and I'll tell you a few things. First, a unit should never need freon unless you have a leak in the system. If that tech discovered the unit was actually low, they should have let you know, then performed at least a visual leak inspection! Most times, these unscrupulous companies will come out and get you by "adding freon". At this pint, your system is probably overcharged. You'll call them back out a little way down the road, and conveniently, they are going to charge you again to recover the three pounds of freon; it's a game some companies love to play with customers. They SHOULD have been checking more than just the freon pressures. This is a list our company works from: 1. Check operation of t-stat and set anticipator if needed. 2. Check/clean air filter. 3. Check temperature split. 4. Inspect fused disconnect. 5. Inspect all wiring and tighten down all electrical connections. 6. Inspect contactors, relays and pressure controls. 7. Inspect electrical safety circuits. 8. Check voltage and amperage to all motors. 9. Inspect indoor blower motor for dirt and build up; advise customer of what is found. 10. Inspect bearings and lubricate if motor is not sealed. Lubricate all other moving parts. 11. Inspect and clean condensate pan and lines. 12. Check defrost operation. 13. Inspect outdoor coil and advise customer of findings. 14. Inspect the duct seal at the unit. There's a LOT more to check than just the freon. The list for a gas unit is much more extensive. Call a reputable company next time......
