I was dealing with an internet service called AAAVanlines. Sally gave me a quote for poundage moved. Right before the move she said they had to do it by square footage, she assured me that the truck was measured out so that I could see the square footage.

When they came to take my stuff it was now and company called The Right Movers. They just went around and numbered all the boxes, large to small it didn't seem to matter. Then they charged me About $300.00 more for the extra boxes. I did not have the telephone number of the Inn we were staying at, they told me just to put down the name and city and not to worry. I did that.

I was told at the beginning that there would be a free month of storage either at the point of pick up or delivery. I chose the point of delivery. After about 4 weeks and well into winter, I called the company to find out what happened to our stuff. They claimed that they were waiting for an address or phone number.

Finally 3 to 4 weeks later our stuff arrives. The driver was abusive and told us he could not bring the truck into the storage units because of the snow - there was less than an inch.

He said we had to pay him another $300.00 to put our stuff in the stoarge locker or he would just through it out in the snow.

The truck driver was so abusive someone called the state police. We gave him what little cash we had - about $ 150.00 and he then put our stuff in the storage locker.

#2Consumer Suggestion

Wed, July 24, 2002

Deborah,

These two movers are notorious in the industry for scamming consumers. PLEASE take the time to complain to the Attorneys General of Florida and California. Also, the DOT is starting to crack down on scam moving companies. Seven companies were recently fined for scamming consumers.

see http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/
contactus/press/2002/071902.htm.

Ameri Vanlines, one of the companies fined, is the same company as AAA Vanlines. So please take the time to make a report to the DOT, as these fines were the result of consumer complaints. Consumers may file household goods or other commercial motor carrier complaints on FMCSA's nationwide complaint hotline at
1-888-368-7238 (1-888 DOT-SAFT).

A commercial complaint form is now available on FMCSA's website at http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov. The form may be mailed to: FMCSA, 400 Seventh St., SW, MC-PA, Washington, DC 20590, or faxed to: 202-366-7298.
