I purchased a Gustav (Tavan) chronograph calendar watch and a 24 month extended protection plan from uBid on April 20, 2007. At the time I was very happy with my purchase. Within 3 months the pins in the band were becoming increasingly loose. I had one replaced at a jewelers, as it had caught on the material of our sofa and had broken.

The other pins that held the band together were constantly catching on my clothing and finally my skin. After accidentally scratching the mineral crystal and enduring this constant scratching from the defective pins, I decided to check my warranty to see what could be done.

The pins and the scratched crystal were covered. I called the provided toll free number (1-866-526-0013) to file a claim (verification # 1774). I was told that they would send me a refund letter within seven to ten days. I needed to sign the "buyout" letter and fax it to them before they would refund my original purchase price, less the $ 19.50 for the protection plan.

I explained to them that I really just wanted to get it repaired. They said that I could use my refund to have it repaired. Since I wasn't offered a choice, I said I would do what they required.

On June 10, 2008 I called customer support to report that I still hadn't received the buyout letter as promised within the 7-10 days. They said that they would email it to me within 15 minutes and I could fax it back to them. I waited about 40 minutes and never received an email with the form attached. I called again and was put on hold and promptly disconnected.

I called a third time and was told that the person I had talked to was on another line but they would get my request to her (Sylvia).

To this day I have not received the so called refund form. I've repeatedly called and requested answers, to no avail.
