Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I had purchased a few single items from Ubid.com and have been somewhat let down by the quality of the products and I felt that the charges for shipping were higher than normal, but I completed those sales without issue. I had made four purchases and all had around ten dollars shipping charges even though none of the packages weighed over five ounces. These were all shipped First Class Mail, so the charges to ship would have been around forty five cents. I run an online e-commerce website and I am familiar with handling charges and what that entails. Even though I felt these charges were a little overboard, I was able to get over it since the amount was not totally egregious.

One Sunday evening my wife and I were browsing for products to resell on one of our websites and came across some 2.0 GB SD memory cards by SanDisk up for auction on Ubid.com. There were 57 of them available and the starting bid was only $1.00 each! This seemed like a wonderful deal even so much that my wife and I decided to bid $2.00 each for twenty of the cards. The shipping stated was $14.99 which seemed to be about right for twenty SD memory cards. Each card weighs exactly 1.4 ounces including the original manufacturer's packaging. So this seemed not only realistic, but also fair.

After our bid had been placed and there was no way to cancel, change, or back out of it, the true shipping charges were revealed. We were charged $14.99 for each SD memory card! I was dumbfounded. A total shipping and handling charge of $299.80 was charged for 8" X 6" X 5" box with a total combined weight of 2 lbs. 5 oz and shipped via UPS ground service from Brooklyn, NY. I went to the UPS website to calculate the shipping charges of a box that size, weight, and insured value from the same zip codes and was quoted $14.30. This estimate doesn't include any corporate discounts that are available.

If Ubid.com needed to make that amount for a sale of these cards it should have been included in the price and not made up by deceiving people into thinking that they are receiving a good deal. This is immoral, unjust, and just plain shady business. How many more people have been hoodwinked into paying a ridiculous shipping charge, but are too busy to complain? How many more people will be raped of their hard earned money by underhanded dealings such as this by Ubid.com?

I am asking each person who reads this to stand up and make a difference! Ubid.com would only address my concern with a form response about shipping and handling charges being inherent to a mail order website. I offered to pay a total of $50.00 in shipping charges if they would refund the overage, but have received no response since the form email last week. They may not send me any refund, but I will not stand by idle while more people are taken advantage of.

It is time to start a revolution against these injustices and make these underhanded business practices known to the public. Please copy and paste this information and url link on each and every blog site, customer advocacy forum, restroom wall (lol) , or other information source that you know of. This is the only way that we can stop the immoral practices that have hurt all of us who are reading this.

It is irresponsible to posses knowledge such as this and not share it with the masses. Would I have paid that price for that many SD cards? Maybe I would and maybe I wouldn't, but I would like to have the option and not be forced and tricked into thinking I was getting a great deal only to find out that I had been lied to. If you are reading this please send a link to this page anywhere that you are allowed. Send it to every journalist you know, to every public forum you can find, and send it to [email protected]. I will be sending them a link to this page and begging them for a public response, but I am more than sure we will get no such thing until everyone pitches in. I have given up hope for any money back, but I will NEVER stop doing everything that I can to save the next person from making the same mistake.

Ubid.com has done this to the wrong person and they will care before I am finished.
