November 8th 2022 while searching for whats new in Minecraft Hosting, I came across a service called Sypher Hosting: they offered hosting for a cheep price.

At 3:30pm I paid for this service. 16GB Ryzen 9 5900X @ 4.8 Ghz • DDR4 3600MHz Memory • UNLIMITED Storage • UNLIMITED Databases • 10 Backups • Mod & Plugin Installer • Priority Support

---------------

Netherite Plan - 16GB [PREMIUM]$28.80 USD » Server Location: North America$0.00 USD » Dedicated IP: Dedicated IP$3.00 USD » CPU Priority: High Priority$2.00 USD Setup Fees:$0.00 USD Monthly:$33.80 USD $33.80 USD

" 1st warning  sign that i ignored  - if sounds to good to be true, this it usually is"

Got all the information, server links and login to server password. I logged in and noticed right off the bat that it was not what I paid for, what i got was 198.57.27.146:25579

port 25579  is not a Minecraft access Dedicated IP port: 25565 is, anyone running a Minecraft Hosting service would know that.

" 2ed warning  sign that i ignored : They just started hosting in June 2022"

3:45pm sent a ticket asking them to fix it. Nov 8 2022 5:30pm server still will not start, sent ticket.

6:30 pm still no reply. 1 am checked website found that it was changed to 25565. they did not inform me that it was fixed had to check online my self.

6:35pm Server Crash: Sypher Panel says: 198.57.27.65:25565

But the server.properties Keeps changing: server-port=25579 I keep changing it back to server-port=25565 it works untill I restart the server.

I tryed : 198.57.27.65:25565 = Game Minecraft client says Can't Connect to Server. I tryed : 198.57.27.65:25579 = Game Minecraft client says Can't Connect to Server. 11/9/22 4:38am still not working

But Wait It Gets Better:

Here we go again. server.properties Keeps changing back to port=25579 Why is it going back to 25579? should stay on 25565 Happened just after the server restarted again.

I have no clue why it keeps resetting to port 25579.... server status: unreliable.

I am requesting that removal of a dedicated IP from my server plan be removed, I know it will force me be placed on another server without the dedicated IP and a change of IP. looks like having a dedicated IP is more trouble than it's worth with this service. My tec guys says it will stop the server from automatically changing the IP in server.properties.

Eather that or close my account and refund the amount paid. I am running out of time.

Posted by Charles Wallace on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022 (12:29)Authorized User Yea I just download the server.properties and found that all the ports are now pointing to 25565

Just to be safe I restarted the server and all ports did remain at 25565. Case closed. ty.

Posted by Sypher Hosting on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022 (12:22)Operator The control panel pings the server the same way the Minecraft server list does so this is most likely a mistake on your side. I was just able to join the server with no issues at all and if you check the server console you can see that as well.

Please make sure you have typed the IP correctly as that is the most common issue we get sent to us through our support tickets.

Posted by Charles Wallace on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022 (11:52)Authorized User Sorry but no, It shows it is working on the control panel, but try it with the Minecraft clint using : 198.57.27.65:25565 and is says Can't Connect to Server.

Posted by Sypher Hosting on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022 (11:25)Operator Hello, I have just started the server, rebooted it and it is all working for me but when I got to server.properties it was set a 25575. I’m not really sure where the issue is but it seems to be working now.

Posted by Sypher Hosting on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022 (17:03)Operator Hello, I’ve sorted the issue, please let me know if it works.

Posted by Charles Wallace on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022 (16:56)Authorized User Error in order

25579 is not a Minecraft Dedicated IP 25565 is.  if I can not get a Dedicated IP of 25565 then I do not need the Dedicated IP Request in my billing, my srv will handle it. I tried everything  including a full server fresh restart, but again it just crashed.

I spent to much time fighting this crapy server and putting up with incompetent hosting staff. It's a simple IP Fix and they had no clue how to fix it.

============================================

No Java set access, poor staff knowage about servers. IP keeps changing with each restart. finaly it lockup - nothing worked, Spend 24hrs fighting this server. closed account 11/9/2022 8:30pm pst.

and requested a refund: Finding nothing at all on their Knowage Base Help page I sent a a ticket advising them I am closing the account: I received a confirmation just after wards.

Reason for refund: Paying for a server that never worked, and having for less then 24 hrs.

============================================

Received message about my refund from them, simply says good luck. so I filed a report with paypal and this is the hosting services response.:

Hello Charles Wallace, You have agreed to the Terms of Service of Sypher Hosting when you used our website, as well as selecting the Terms of Service agreement box at checkout. You are unable to submit an order or create an account with us unless you select this check box. In our Terms of Service, under paragraph three, our terms regarding 'Refunds & Disputes' are written. Below is the stanza in question as well as a link to our Terms of Service agreement. "3. REFUNDS & DISPUTES All refund requests must be made via a ticket on our website. Refund requests are approved at our discretion, on a case-by-case basis. All purchases, excluding the case in which a payment method was unauthorized by the card or account holder, are approved for a refund at our discretion. When requesting a refund you must be logged into your client account. A payment made for the renewal of a service cannot be refunded. If the client opens a dispute, we reserve the right to suspend any and all of the client's services." https://sypherhosting.com/terms-of-service.php Not only have you opened a dispute without liaising with our support team, but you have also attempted to sway our team into giving you a refund by threatening to leave a poor review on Trust Pilot. This is also a breach of Trust Pilot's Terms of Service, which allows us the right to have any of your reviews flagged and removed. The product was delivered as ordered. We have responded to all of your support tickets regarding the issue offering solutions and fixed the issue until you decided to wipe and reinstall the service. You then blamed us for that and displayed no patience towards our team, nor any accountability for your actions. You will not be issued a refund due to your multiple Terms of Service breaches. You are more than welcome to have your service reinstated for the remainder of the time frame as a courtesy for the delay, otherwise, you are not to use our services again.

1 - I have used many hosting services, this is the only one that I  have ever had trouble with, your staff was incompetent to fix a simple ip address error.

2 - I made no threat of any kind, and why would you want me to continue using your service unless it's to delay action being taken, It is true that you sensor trust pilot reports and remove all the negative ones, I can see why and that is the reason why i never use Trust Pilot..

3 - TOS- it is required to have them posted and accessible for customers to read at any time, I see they are no longer posted any place including your Knowledge Base why is that? this TOS was never shown at start up.

4 - When a customer rents a server, they expect it to be in working order, clearly it was not at the start, Do what is right and end this before you force me to waste time posting this with other services..

Sypher Hosting's Response

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

Mon, December 26, 2022

Good morning, afternoon or evening to whoever may be reading into this case. Below I’m going to address the multiple Terms of Service breaches made by this customer, as well as other rude and insensitive comments he has made towards our staff team. I’d like to clarify that I am the owner of the business, not the one answering support tickets.

Terms of Service Breaches

I’m going to begin with the Terms of Service breaches. The client in question has agreed to the Terms of Service of Sypher Hosting when you use our website, as well as selecting the Terms of Service agreement box during account creation. You are unable to submit an order or create an account with us unless you select this check box. In our Terms of Service, under paragraph three, our terms regarding 'Refunds & Disputes' are written. Below is the stanza in question as well as a link to our Terms of Service agreement:

"3. REFUNDS & DISPUTES

All refund requests must be made via a ticket on our website. If the client opens a dispute, we reserve the right to suspend any and all of the client's services." https://sypherhosting.com/terms-of-service.php

Not only had he opened a PayPal dispute without liaising with our support team or requesting a refund, but you have also attempted to sway our team into giving you a refund by threatening to leave a poor review on Trust Pilot or poor reviews on other forums.

While threatening to leave this negative review he was also hurling abuse towards our support operator. He was making rude and sexist remarks towards her once he had seen that she was a female in the about us section of our website. This is not something we stand for and is another reason why I am fighting this case, it is rude and inappropriate, he has made one of my staff members uncomfortable, and I will stand up for her accordingly.

This is also a breach of Trust Pilot's Terms of Service, which allows us the right to have any of his misleading reviews flagged and removed. The product was delivered as ordered. We have responded to all support tickets regarding the issue offering solutions and fixed the issue until the client decided to wipe and reinstall the service. He then blamed us for that and displayed no patience or respect towards our team. This is not acceptable behaviour and should be treated accordingly.

False Claims

The customer in question has denied that our ToS is posted on our website which is a complete lie, you quite literally can’t sign up without accepting them.

Our Terms of Service are posted publicly, you can even see it in the footer of the screenshot the customer posted to try and prove that they weren’t there, you are also forced to accept them at checkout. If the client did not want to read the ToS agreements that you must agree to when purchasing or using something that is done at his own risk. It's a less than 10 minute read, and a quick skim of the ToS would lead you to what you are seeking.

Sexism and other inappropriate remarks towards our support team

The customer in the case has made multiple threats, and blatantly sexist comments towards our support operator, as on our website it is listed under about us which individual fills which role. Attached in screenshots below you can clearly see the manner in which these remarks were made.

You can verify this is true, because when responding to the PayPal dispute he started referring to me as she, while I am not the support operator he seems to believe so.

We, as a team, do not stand for this behaviour. This is vile and unacceptable, so while this hasn’t been a factor relating to the denial of a refund, I wanted to add it to the case since he had decided to escalate it. His recount of the event has conveniently left out all of the rude remarks he made, and any threats painting himself as a good client.

Final Statement

As a final say, I would like to briefly outline what has occurred. The client has breached terms of service, mistreated my support team, disputed a transaction before requesting a refund or contacting us (against our ToS), made false claims about ToS not being available on our website and lastly is sexist towards females within our industry. I ask that all of this be considered before letting this guy keep his funds to run free and do it again to another small business.
