On October 9 2021 I purchased a Proax HD Super wide-angle / macro lens and polarizing filter from New Age Camera in San Francisco CA.

I was led to believe the attachment was new but later discovered it was damaged. The seller did not reveal that the lens was used and grossly overcharged me for it. I payed over $900 for a used lens and filter that goes for $50 to $150, as used equipment on Ebay.

It was impossible to see the damage in the store because of the low lighting. But here are some of the problems I discovered: The lens had a scratch on the front element and there was evidence that a lubricant had been used on it.

No external packaging was included and the wooden box in which the lens was presented showed significant signs of wear. There was chipped paint on the top, its clasp was well-worn as were the felt pads on the bottom of the box. There were also greasy smudges on the box.

Tests show that the lens does not function as a super wide lens. 12-18mm is typical. The best this attachment could perform on two different lenses I tried was an equivalent of around 35mm.

In short the lens and its presentation box was used and seemed to have been tampered with. It also did not function as promised.

Why are you buying items that are a) of a brand you have never heard of; b) that you can't inspect; c) from a shady-a*s store in Chinatown that just screams "ripoff" from the moment you see their sign?  And obviously, you don't even know the proper name for the item that you bought (a teleconverter), or what off-brand ones normally go for.

I doubt the item you bought was actually used, or that it actually had any outer packaging in the first place.  It's just a cheap piece of crap that sells for $40 on Aliexpress.  Off-brand Chinese filters are like $5.  For $900, you could buy a real lens from a real brand, not a piece of crap teleconverter.
