June 25, 2019 "Just Awful" - Splainin I purchased a used car from Mercedes Benz Chantilly in March 2019 thinking I made a good decision with a dealer I could trust. I drove it home to Richmond and then to shop for maintenance. (approx 125 miles) A technician from Mercedes Benz Richmond was driving it when the transmission gave out. I have already spent $5700 on repairs which I was okay with and now it needs a $6600 transmission. It was proposed that I could put the amount I paid for the car toward another car but that is not acceptable.

It’s a Mercedes. I knew it needed some maintenance and I was fine with doing the MAINTENANCE.
- Oh yes because it is a "Luxury" car you are expected to pay more for maintenance. I bet the Salesman fed you that line and you sucked it right up because you thought you were getting one over on them with the "good" deal you thought you were getting.
Sorry but $5700 in "maintenence" is not something you should have in the first couple of months of purchasing the car...even with a Mercedes. So to accept that and be okay with it, shows you really do have a lack of knowlege in how to purchase a car. So thank you for confirming that you knew it had issues and just failed to actually find out the extent of the issues BEFORE you purchased it.
Now, with that I will give you one suggestion. Depending on the age of the car and miles and how far you are out of the warranty, you may be able to deal with Mercedes directly to see if they will cover the cost of the replacement of the transmission. While most manufacturers would tell you to go "pound sand", I have had people deal with them and was able to get a few major items covered.

This car should have never been listed for sale and should have gone straight to a junkyard.

Regardless of the type or price of a car, people will rarely be "okay" with $5700 in repairs, actually to the contrary for that amount of repairs they would be on this site screaming about how horrible the car is or that they were sold a "junk" car. Now, you say you are doing that, but you are doing that only AFTER you found out you have an additional $6600 in repairs.
So the fact that you say you are "okay" with the initial repairs tells us a few things.
First, you probably got a "good deal" well be below the "value" of the car. Otherwise you wouldn't have driven 125 miles to get the car when you apparently have another dealer closer. Second, you knew the car had issues when you got it, so you were expecting probably a significant expense for various repairs.
Your issue is that even though you knew it had to have repairs, you failed to actually get the car checked out BEFORE you bought it to verify the extent(and cost) of the repairs. So this is really nothing more than a case of buyer's remorse.
