Complaint Review: Jad J Harb dba. JTH Builders LLC - Middlebury Connecticut

I have worked with dozens of Commercial and Residential contractors in my 35 years in business and this guy was absolutely the worst experience I've ever had.  He is angry, aggressive, argumentative and created a totally toxic work environment from the start.  He talked me into a cost, plus agreement in the guise of reducing his estimates to save me money.  Then, the costs skyrocketed and he came in almost 100% over budget.  And when asked to verify that the money already paid to him did in fact go to the Subs as an actual cost, he totally refused to provide cancelled check copies of the amounts he represented to me as the true cost.  Then he hired an attorney rather than to provide quick, easy cancelled check copies that could've been printed online in 5 minutes.  One example of his dishonesty; we had need for a mason to do some CMU work.  His estimate was $9,890.  When I discussed the quote with another sub, cause Jad Harb was hardly ever on site, we were confused about why he was bidding a scope that was decided against more than a month previous. Because of regular delays due to Jad's failure to schedule subs or to plan and schedule inspections, I was able to secure a second bid of $5,000 for the expanded scope that wasn't needed (wanted apples to apples) and a second quote of $4,000 for the true scope needed.  Without sharing the new quote, I asked Jad if the price was the same for the reduced scope and he said... okay, I beat up the Mason and got you a $1,500 credit, which he was paid for in full for, plus his overhead and supervision charge.   Then when I insited on have lien waivers being filled out in full and signed by the subs, that amount for the first time turned into $6,381.00, but he is still unwilling to provide a cancelled check copy, so really who knows.  Another example was when Jad Harb told me he needed a $37,490.00 advance wired to him to purchase "materials".  I balked and ultimately mailed him a check and he literally called me every day till it arrived.  Then some three weeks later I asked for verificaiton that the money had indeed gone to buying supplies, and he went back and forth with me and my manager screaming, threatening to walk off the job all while submitting partial lists and credit card slips that conveniently omitted any details or amounts.  He even tried to make my manager suspicious of me by saying he had provided me with all the detail, and then refusing to provide it again to him, as I explained to my manager was obviously already on his phone or in his email, to which he refused.  Big Warning.... In my experience, when a person spends more time arguing, screaming at your people, hiring attorneys, talking over the facts, rather than just take the 5 minutes to be transparent, then they are not a person to be trusted... ever.  This guy is bad news.  I know it.  His people know it.  And you will profusely thank me if this review causes you to find somebody better suited and more deserving of your trust.  I literally woke up every moring of Jad J.
