Fleet Bank Fleet Bank Took Money Which wasn't theirs Poughkeepsie New York
Only in America folks can a bank put money from a joint check into a sole account thereby changing the character of the original check. Then Fleet Bank put a freeze on the account.
These are the facts...former partner attempted to cash a chech which was made to John Doe AND Jane Doe, JT TEN. Now common banking regulations say that a check made out in joint name MUST be endorsed by both parties. Well not if you are dealing with Fleet Bank. They allowed the above mentioned check to be deposited into my former partners sole account without even so much as his endorsement on the back of the check. The former partner merely wrote "For Deposit" and some idiot teller never bothered to check for endorsements.
When I discovered what the former partner had done I contacted my brokerage firm and requested a copy of the canceled check so I could determine how and where the check had been deposited. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that a check which had been made in joint name was now sitting in Fleet Bank in a sole account...in the former partners name.
After I had confirmed that the check had wrongfully been deposited I contacted Fleet Bank and demanded that they release my portion of the joint check. They refused and put a freeze on the entire account...without a court order.....So now what was once in joint name and ownership is in the control of the former partner. It was Fleet's mistake but they are refusing to make me whole again. What a crock....I wish I could sue them....I've always wanted to own a bank....
