Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

part 1 - introduction

I had to attend a Funeral in chester, pa at the last minute on 9/17/2010.  I booked my reservations on through priceline on 9/16/2010 to travel 6 hours to chester which is located 15 minutes south of philadelphia pa.  I had  a total of 5 people in my party but only 4 of us was going to be staying in chester that week the other person was going back after the home funeral. Upon arriving at the hotel at 7am I went inside and asked the gentleman at the front desk what time was the ealiest I could check in. He stated to me "1pm but sometimes we will let you check in at 12".  This was great for me since the funeral was at 11:00, and I could check in after it was over.

Part 2 -arrival

Upon check in there was no one at the front desk.  I rang the bell for service and a different guy approached me.  I then told hiim that I had a reservation in my name I booked on line.  While he decided to answer the telphone and book someone on the phone, I stood with my reservation cofirmation I printed off from home patiently waiting.  Finally after 10 minutes he asked for my ID and my credit card (not my confirmation information).  He brought me back a print off and asked how many people were with me (since he could see the other 5 people with me).  I told him 4.  He then looked at me and said I'm going to have to charge you 40 extra dollars because your reservation is for 2 people.  I did not pay the 40 dollars because I told him only 2 people were going to stay and asked if they could come upstairs to change clothes.  He told me yes.

Part 3 - the house keeper

Upon going upstairs to check in, the lady that does house keeping stared as we went to our rooms on the 7th floor.  She acted as if she was placing her key in a room directly across from the elevator and kept looking back.  We then got changed and all 5 of us left to go visiting.  This was around 3 oclock on friday. (this is important also)

Part 4- the end of day 1 friday night

Around 11:30pm or 12 midnite I then dropped 3 people off at the room (did not go inside the building) while I went back to a relative of mine to stay for the night.  The other person that was going to go back home after the funeral check into a room that night at 6am and stayed until checkout at 12noon on saturday.  They charged that person 60 dollars for 6 hours which is not even a problem or issue.  (This is important information later though).

Part 5 - the incident Saturday morning

I come back to the hotel at 11:30 am on Saturday morning with a relative of mine to give the others a ride.  (remember I have not been therea t the hotel since 3:30pm friday afternoon) I then saw the person in my party that was checking out that saturday morning (the person from part 4).  We were talking and telling him to have a safe trip back.  He then proceded to go out the door and my other relative and I was heading to the elevators.  The guy that checked me in was at the front desk and asked me was I staying another night.  I then got confused and said what do you mean, I have already reserved my room until Sunday.  He then shouted, "you have 4 people in your room" in front of a maintence worker named Gene, and the guy that was in part of the introduction.  I then told him, "I don't know where you got your information from, however, I dont have 4 people in my room".  (and if we all can do simple math then you guys know I didnt have 4 people in my room).  He then said yes I do because the housekeeper said so.  I then said I don't know where she got her information from beause she's wrong and obviously could not count.  I did not stay in the room and my other relative booked another room so where is he getting the 4th person.  he then said well if it aint 4 he knows it isnt 2.  I then left the elevators (by now I'm very irrate) and went to the front desk and I told him that I work in customer service and I would lose my job if I ever decided to speak to a customer the wAY he was talking at me.  He was raising his voice and trying to talk over me without listening.  He then told me there was a button on the website i booked through (which was priceline) to change the number of adults.  I then informed him I book rooms all the time through different sites and that this site did nto give me that option and would he like to step over to the computer so that I could show him that it did not. He would not move from the front desk and he changed the subject and kept yelling at me.  I then told him if he ran my credit card without my approval, then I would sue him.  He still kept talking.  I then went to the elevator to go to the room to let everyoen know we will be checking out because of the service we were receiving.

Part 6 - still being watched

I then got off the elevator on my floor and another employee was standing in front of the elevators between my room and the elevator with his arms folded.  He looked at me and did not speak or acknowledge me.  As I am waiting on my mom to open the door, I turned ot my left and this guy was still looking at me.  I then asked him what was he looking at, and he said he was working.  He had no mop, bucket, pen, paper, rag, nor print out sheet.  he did not go in the elevator as I come out, and he was not going in a room.  I told him he was only working his jaws at me, and he was spying on me too.

Part 7 the check out

I then went back downstairs and told hiim i would be checking out since it was before 12 noon.  He then said that I would have to call the place I booked it through and I would still lose my money because I wouldnt be given a  24  hour cancellation notice.  He then said he wasnt gonna charge me the 40 dollars to my card and we would be ok. I apologized to hiim for any misunderstanding and then I also let him know that I felt my civil rights of privacy was being violated since I was not doing anything illegal.

part 8 just very unethical

I went back upstairs, and informed that they did not have to check out.  I called my relative that from part 4 and asked what did he think of the situation that occurred when we were downstairs.  he then informed me that he had paid the 40 for me.  I was then furious because instead of the guy at the front desk saying it was taken care of allready by someone, he tried to lead me to  belive was doing me a favor and taking care of this customer inservice for me.

I did not stay in that hotel on Saturday night either  We left the hotel around 1 pm on Saturday afternoon and as going back to the lobby for the afternoon (the guy from part 6- being watched) was downstairs talking to the guys at the desk.  After that Saturday morning, we all left to go visiting family and friends and I did not drop them off until 11:30 pm Saturday night.  I did not come back until 10 am on Sunday morning to pick them up for checkout.  Upon checkout I did not sign anything, get a receipt nor apologies.  As I was leaving the housekeeping lady and the other guy that said he as doing work was coming out of the elevator as i was going down.  she then asked was I checking out and I said yes.  She then asked which room.  (I'm then thinking to myself... I was the same room you told the guys yesterday that had 4 people in it).

Please support me in reporting and not supporting this hotel.  This particular hotel is managed by non americans.  It seems to me when going into businesses that people like this own and manage, they do not give customer service.  They only tried to get revenue and I felt violated by being watched.  I should have been able to spend my money and have visitors if I like and come and go as I please.

You sure you want to stick to that story?

If we take your account of the events as 100% true and complete, at best this seems to be a mis-communication because of the circumstances.  That by the way are a direct result of your actions.

But, since there are usually 3 sides to every story, your side, their side, and somewhere in the middle the truth.  There is probably items that you have left out that may not put you in the best light, but even some of the things you did put in don't help you either.  Oh, and them being non-Americans has nothing to do with this.

With how many people were coming and going in your report, it is no wonder why they would be "watching you".  Oh, and you might as well drop the "my Civil Rights to Privacy were violated" because of them watching you in a PUBLIC place.  It would probably not be the first time they had more people stay in the room than is registered.

First why would you reserve the room, be the one who checked into the room, yet had no plans on staying?  Sure it could happen, but with everything else just seems odd.  Especially since according to your report everyone is a relative, yet you went to stay at another relatives house.  If everyone was relative why couldn't they stay there as well?

In trying to decipher the rest of your report.  At best it seems as if you did have 3 people in the room, and possibly 4.  You first told the clerk there were 4 with you, then when he said you reserved for 2 you said that only 2 were actually "staying".  Yet when you returned that night you dropped off 3 people to the ROOM, not ROOMS.  It was not until the next morning when another relative ended up in another room, which until your "part 5" was never mentioned.

The clincher though was that if you were right and there were only 2 in the room why did your other relative pay the $40?

By the way if you look on Priceline you are correct in that they do not appear to have a space for the number of guests, but they do state that all rooms are booked for "Double Occupancy".  So if the hotel charges more for extra people above the two, that is a charge you do owe.
