SMC Specialty Merchandise Corporation - EMerchant Club SMC Specialty Merchandise Corporation Senior citizen scammed out of over $10,000. Van Nuys, California
Specialty Merchandise Corporation and E-MerchantClub cost me over $10,000 over a period of 5 years or so. I had 2 of SMC's websites for about 5 years, but they never made me any money. They cost me $30.00 a month, after paying SMC around $1,200-1,500 each to set them up. When I finally told them I wanted out, they didn't want to let me out! They continued to bill me each month, but they took the websites down and re-sold the domains to other companies that sold pornographic products! I returned all their "kits," with a "return receipt requested." They claimed they never got them. I sent them a copy of the Return Receipt, signed by someone who scribbled their name (like a chicken scratching), whose name could not be read! I finally turned them over to the BBB but I never received a dime of my money back! I just charged it off my income tax as a bad business investment! I took what merchandise was left and donated it to a charity, for them to sell it, if they wanted to - I even left the price tags on it! SMC was a better company back in the 70's and 80's, as I looked at it then, but I didn't have any money to invest. When I got the money to invest in their merchandise and websites, it had been taken over by some "foreigner," as Linda (the daughter of the founder, who has since died), that appears on the TV infomercial with Tom Bosley (who has also died recently), is no longer affiliated with the company in any way. I found this out by doing a LOT of research on the company on the web. If someone wants to REALLY PROMOTE their websites, it might be a paying proposition, but there are an awful lot of people who are in the "giftware" business now, having bought SMC's "deal!" I'd stay away from SMC, if I were you! Take your money and put it in a rat-hole, where it will earn about as much interest as the banks will pay you! At least you can go back to that rat-hole someday and dig up your money! I can't do that, as SMC got mine! I'm the sap, aren't I?
