A&E Factory Service, Sears Home Repair A&E Factory Service - Sears Home Repair Scam Port St. Lucie Florida
Our 20HP Sears riding lawn tractor needed service. It was running rough, so I replaced the plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil and oil filter. Still ran rough so was pretty sure it needed to have the carburetor cleaned and adjusted. Called Sears Home Repair and they scheduled an appointment for a tech to come to our home. We told them we thought it was probably the carburetor that needed cleaning.
An A & E Factory Service truck pulls up and said he's here to repair the lawn tractor. He starts it up and says "yep, it's the carburetor". Writes up an estimate for $447.60 to replace the carburetor! I said, can't you just clean and adjust the carb, or rebuild it? He says, "Nope".
I said there's no way I'm paying half what the tractor is worth to replace a carburetor. He said "fine" and proceeded to charge us the $102.24 for a service call. He didn't do anything!
We feel like this is a scam. The guy just comes to your home, gives you an exorbatant estimate, you refuse, and he happily makes over a hundred dollars from a service call after doing nothing. Unbelievable.
Now, I'll have to get a carb rebuilding kit and do the job myself. Cost of the rebuild kit? About $20.
Sears should be ashamed of themselves for using A&E Factory Service.
