After trying to buy contact lenses through PVM Weblens www.weblens.net, it was rudely brought to my attention that I had incorrectly completed the prescription order for the type of lenses I was ordering. This was due to the fact that I had recently changed optician, but something that I could easily rectify with a call to my previous optician. However, in the interim, that is, between placing the order and giving the correct prescription details, I realized, almost immediately, that I had not given the full shipping address. A mistake which I immediately rectified by sending a fax and an e-mail to PVM Weblens.

PVM Weblens acknowledged receipt of the e-mail by sending a one word e-mail in return Thanks'. A week passed by, my Mastercard had been debited for the full amount, when I received a rude, sarcastic e-mail from PVM Weblens stating that the order had been shipped and returned because not enough detail had been given in the shipping address, despite the fact that the full, correct address HAD been given and acknowledged.

PVM Weblens wanted to charge me for the re-shipping cost. At this point, to argue seemed futile, so I agreed to pay the re-shipping. At the same time, I sent, to PVM Weblens, copies of the original e-mail that I had sent giving the correct shipping details. PVM Weblens informed me that this was sent after the shipment had been made.

This was a blatant lie as it was a physical impossibility because the date of the e-mail was before they had even received the correct prescription details. Despite the fact that I said I would pay for the re-shipping, even though the error was not mine, PVM Weblens rudely informed me that due to my mistake they were canceling the order and I would be barred' from using their service. Being barred from using this awful service does not bother me. However, the fact that my money has now been with them for over two weeks with no refund in sight, DOES bother me.

I believe that legally, due to the fact that money had been debited from my Mastercard account, this places PVM Weblens in breach of contract. I do not know how, in a struggling market, internet companies can operate in such a way. It brings the business to consumer' internet market place into disrepute and it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of anyone who is prepared to shop on-online.
