I recently signed up for web hosting and domain registration through web.com. It said it was 13.90 and this included one full year of domain registration, and domain registration was all I needed, hosting was a bonus. Nowhere did it say that the 13.90 was a monthly or even recurring fee, and I spent about half an hour searching the site for clarification, but found none.

I then subscribed to the service, only to get an e-mail saying that this 13.90 does not cover one year, but one month. I then cancelled my service because this was more than I wanted to spend, especially since I've found the service I need for less than $10 a year elsewhere.

I asked them to cancel my account so that I can purchase the domain name through another company. But they cancelled my domain name and said that not only could I not purchase it through another company because web.com will own it for the next year, but now I can not even purchase it through web.com because my account has been cancelled.

When I talked to customer support they were rude the first time, then the next person just could not help me at all. They said that all of the pages of the website explicitly say that the 13.90 is a monthly fee. But since I linked to the site through another company I somehow bypassed this.

I believe this is both false advertisement and trademark infringement.

Contact your Credit Card company

#2Consumer Suggestion

This is a fraudulent company. And if they are still charging you a monthly rate, you should contact your credit card company to either stop payment, or change your card number. They refused to cancel my account (gave me the run-around: no one answered the various cancellation phone numbers), then emailed me saying they were going to upgrade my account and charge me more, even though I had asked to cancel it. So my credit card account started showing these various charges from web.com, none of which I agreed to. My card was about to expire anyway, so I filed a dispute to stop payment, and also changed my card number, since my old card number is still in their system. So they can continue to ignore my requests to cancel my account, but they won't have access to my money.
